BTW to the OP, whole foods are > supps. The best way to feed your body is eating good whole foods like lean chicken, egg whites etc. but if you're caught out or struggling to get it in >4000cals on your bulk then shakes can be introduced. They're also needed PWO because they're digested faster (see above post).

Don't believe all the crap about what time of day to eat etc. just go to something like fitday.com and input your intake and exercise and if you want to gain mass you make certain that your caloric intake > expenditure and try to balance it to around 40:40:20 or so (Protein:carb:fats).

Protien Shakes are a waste of cash and you end up peeing out most of it. Cheapest high protien source = egg whites. 12 for a buck.

Egg white omlets with Morningstar Farms soy "recipe crumbles" (fake hamburger) from the grocery veggitarian isle and lots of Franks Chili Lime Red Hot is pretty good.

I agree with most of what has been said above.

A lot also has to do with genetics. If you dont have the genes to get huge, not much will help you get there other than heavy creatine use or roids.

Eating right and the correct mix of proteins / calories / supplements will certainly help. Protein shakes help, try using a half whey and half soy protein powder mix. They both have different pluses to them.

I agree that to build muscle the 1g of protein per lb of body weight is accurate. But eating 300g per day is overdose. You will crap that out.

I use xyience nox creatine to help build mass, and it is helping. I am 6'3 210 and it has been a long road to get over 200lbs. I am naturally a lean skinny dude, it really isnt in my cards to get huge. I couldnt get over 180 in college when i was playing so much basketball and so active.

I also eat a lot of 99% fat free chicken breasts for meals, and use the whey protein you can get at costco for $20 a tub. Unfortunately I dont like eggs, as that is the best source of good protein.

Jump rope too - a very good cardio work out, churns calories man.

This is also inaccurate. WPI yields higher protein absorbtion than any natural foods. I'll quote the figures later if you like but you should read a little more about things before making such claims. Egg whites are the highest of all natural foods but if you're looking to bulk up then whole eggs are eggselent I can't remember the exact reaction but the saturated fats in yolks are really good for you and help in the natural production of test.

As I previously stated, whole foods are superior due to their packaged essential nutrients but shakes certainly don't get pissed out

I tried the vanilla whey with orange juice combo and

great mix.

walmart has a very nice designer whey on sale for $15 a 2lb tub and a huge jug of OJ for $2.50 ... get a nice $10 hand mixer and your set.

going to start having one for breakfast and after every workout

2 large meals a day, workout 5 days a week, drinking muscle milk immediately before and after every workout, and trying to keep fat-grams-per-day at 20-25. i also run 1/2 mile after every workout. (i know 1/2 mile is for pussies, but im not a runner )

I've found a good book is 'The Abs Diet'--not a diet book or a 'fad' diet as the title implys, but more of a book for people looking for an simple plan that is easy to stick with.

Does a good job of outlining what kinds of foods are ok, good, great, and terrible to eat. Plus it gets into supplements. The book highly recommends Whey protein for anyone working out. However, the book isn't for people trying to bulk up--mostly for people wanting to keep fit. It includes various workouts and schedules to help get started. I dont use the routines at all--I've always had mine, but I really wanted the book because of the food and supplement information.

Btw the author is one of the editors for Men's Health, so it wasn't written by some moron claiming to have all the answers.
