From supraforums.com
------------------------------

Okay, figure this one out.

I bought a "ninja" sword (cheap, but effective ) at a gun show over a year ago. It was made in Pakistan, has a nice although weak steel blade, and a wooden grip, wrapped with cloth. A day or 2 after I bought it I noticed a strange noise coming from it. I put my ear up to the handle....... and heard something chewing!
Apparently there's a bug or something inside the grip, close the the brass end cap, because I can hear the metal vibrate when whatever-it-is bites.... I don't want to break apart the handle to see what it is, because I did pay for the dang thing. So now I have some weird Pakistani bug hanging over my head at night.. I can hear him LOUD when everything is quiet... crunch crunch crunch.. I'm expecting the handle to fall to peices any day.

But the thing that I noticed is this.. That bug has been in there, chewing away on my sword... for over a year!! Would someone tell me what this thing is?? My mom suggested termites, but it doesn't sound like it, it sounds like ONE bug chewing and chewing. There is no outward signs of it being in there... all my friends are amazed when they hear it... I don't get this. Are there many bugs that live over a year? I'm not very knowledgable. Of course, this isn't the best place to ask either, but you know hehe. Somebody gimme some info on what the HECK this is.. I may break down and tear it apart soon to check it out. I just don't want to release some horrible superbug from another country over here

Damn.. it's been almost 4 years since I registered there after buying my Supra. Probably even longer on the MKIV mailing list. Those forums have gone downhill in a big big way. It's my first time reading it in probably 2 years.

Anyways, let the pics do the explaining:

Sword

The handle

Closeup

Supplies

The Hole

The Bugs

that's hilarious. the guy who put that sword together *had* to have known that there was a bug in there (or atleast knew the wood had been bug-eaten, due to the holes), and made it anyway.

I woulda used the blade of the sword to kill the lil bugger.

thanks for the pics, Daniel L

That's crazy! That thing was really munching away at that wood for a year? I wonder how big it is. I want to see a picture of it next to a quarter or something.
