If we are talking about the same thing...IP accelerators help to overcome high latency. Therfore, they work pretty good with dial up or ip-over-satellite but not on broadband connections.

I have never tried one, but I think you are correct. What I meant by my first statement is that there is other software described the same way (IP or download accelerator) that tweaks the IP stack for faster transfer rates. I had completely forgotten about the type that you just mentioned. They probably would make an improvement, but I still think they would be more trouble that they are worth on a high speed connection. IMHO of course.

What're you guys talking about? I'm clueless, but it sounds that it'll help with the SLOW internet speed. I'm still using dial-up .

There are a few types of programs and many variation of each that can help speed up downloads. They will either tweak your computers IP parameters to make the link more efficient or open multiple connections at once to again make the connection more efficient. If you go to a site like Downloads.com and do a search I am sure you will find LOTS of them.

forget the apps Mingster and everyone else, do the mods yourself. But you need a baseline, so here's what to do.

1) www.toast.net - do all of the different types of performance tests and write them ALL down! Try to do all the locations if you have the time and patience, it doesn't take that long.

2) www.speedguide.net - download the various patches for your operating system, the ones you want to download are a) the incraese in speed for your operating system, this will be a .reg file most likely and b) the .reg file or app to set it back to default.

3) reboot after applying the reg file or heck, learn each of the settings yourself and hack the registry manually, just reboot with each change as it is not dynamic in that way.

4) www.toast.net - do the same tests and write down the increases.

I've done these hacks in the past with several members of this board, all with fantastic results. But you must see the numbers, just like dyno numbers to know how well your increase has come to be.

A word of advice, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! If you really want a quicker connection you need to check your MTU settings, packet size and set your system to "Network Server". Change your virtual memory setting to allow you to adjust, and the set your minimum and maximum to 2.5 times you RAM size.

NetBoost, and others like it are a scam! If your really want to learn what your system is capable of try these settings. Your MTU setting needs to be set at 576, COM Boost at 2. I'll try to find the web site that provides some good information for necessary settings. Make sure that your system performance is set to maximum. Read ahead optimization to full. These will make a big diffrence in how your system performs. This is a completely safe way of making your system perform. Unless your really sure about messing with the registry files I advise staying away from doing so. Give it a try an I'll bet you see a marked diffrence.

There is a little Free program that will adjust your registery modem setting and it's called EASY/MTU, it works very well and allows you to benchmark your settings as well. It's the only program except for Duns 2.2 that works.

One other thing, I don't suggest you overclocking your modem settings unless you really know what your doing. None of the suggestions that I have given you will hurt your system.

Speaking of satelite systems, I'll be installing a two way (in and out) internet connection later this month. I'll let you know how things work out. No ISP HEHE! It should operate at approximately 400kbs to 600kps. When I get it installed we are going to benchmark it. I'll let you know.
