Default Dressing professionally

I have the dubious distinction of having a job that more or less requires me to dress "professionally," i.e. dress slacks & shirt with a tie (sometimes a jacket too). Today a couple of co-workers were ribbing me for wearing a tie chain, since "it's something a 70 year old guy would wear." I like it for two reasons: 1) I hate having a tie flapping around getting in the way all the time, and 2) I don't wear jewely, so to me a simple silver chain adds a touch of class without being too pretentious or flashy.

So for those of you in the professional world, what's the verdict? Am I living in the past with my tie chain? Am I supposed to leave it out there flapping in the breeze (so to speak )?

The chain is definitely old skool... but if you like it, who cares?

I haven't seen people wear tie chains much in recent years, but pins to keep your tie from moving around are popular it seems.

Tie chains are old school like a mother. I don't think I've seen anyone wear one except (as your co-workers have said) older folks, and even then it's rare. But seriously, if you like it, then who cares, sport it with pride!

You can get by with neither. Slip the small end of the tie thru the label on the back of the wide end and clip the small end to your shirt. Keeps the tie out of the gravy.

If you like the chain wear it. What was fashionable once comes around eventually and is in vogue again.

Tie chain = stodgy. Might go with those wingtips and pocket watch though.
