Default Drinking too much water

I drink a lot of water everyday. On average I drink about 16 to 18 bottles of water each day. My friend think this eventually will hurt my kidneys by drinking too much water. Your thoughts?

You can effectively drown yourself if you drink too much in a certain period of time.

Do you have diabetes?
If no you might want to have that checked. You may be,.... One way the body deals with excess sugar is to have you flush it out by dinking more.

check for something called diabetes insipidus. it has something to do with a hormone imbalance that causes you to feel thirsty all the time.

also drinking huge amounts of water at one time can kill you because it can throw off the electrolyte balance in your body. that means the levels of sodium and potassium in your body drop because you're dilluting it with lots of water.

thats my simple summary of what can happen to you if you drink too much water all at one time.

good luck, with your water drinking, i say go see a doctor and ask about it.

I don't have diabetes. I usually drink a bottle of water after waking up. I have another one on the way to work and coming back to home. For lunch and dinner i drink about 5 bottles. In between the day I drink about 7 more. Sometimes I drink a bottle or two before going to bed. I guess is not normal because most people I know don't drink that much water as I do. Besides water I don't drink anything else. I rarely drink soda, coffe and beer. The only problem is I have to go to the bathroom often during the day. I think I made a bad habit out of it because sometimes I drink water eventhough I am not thristy.

I think if you drink it in moderation, you should be ok. There was that one lady that did that radio station competition "Hold your wee for a wii" and actually died from drinking too much water. It ended up flushing everything out of her system including all of the enzymes/electrolytes/etc. that was vital for life, and ended up passing away on her drive back home.

When it's hot I drink like that. In fact I drink a great deal of water all the time but not as many as you otherwise. I had a heat stroke several years ago and lost the ability to sweat. Now if I need to be outside in the heat I drink water and pee instead. About 18 or 19 years ago I was drinking 14 to 18 20oz Cokes everyday. That landed me in the hospital with an ulcerated colon. I am not diabetic.
