water intoxication can kill you. It would most likely be caused by consumeing mass quantities mor quickly than tour body can use or rid I'd. If your body has time to deal with it and you are urinating well between intake you are probably okay.

Christ, 16-18 bottles a day? Not only is that a hell of a lot but it must get pretty expensive too.

in oklahoma in the heat when soldiers were trianing, they had a requirement for a while to drink 1L of water every hour during the day. i thought that was a ton, but in the heat it's needed.

it was 110F some of the time, and they were running all over with full gear, so the water was replacing sweat--they didnt have to pee every 2 minutes, thats for sure.

but 18 20oz bottles a day sounds excessive if you aren't rigorously exercising. if its common though i bet your body has found a method to compensate or cope, but...

that's almost 3 gallons. I'd suggest to reduce total intake to 1gallon over the day unless you are exercising or in extreme heat etc.

If you drink a lot of water at once, it probably won't kill you, you'll just throw it back up....trust me

Sooooometimes. There has been several reports of fraternities hazing with water binging. A few of the pledges died, a couple landed in the hospital. Needless to say, those fraternities were kicked off campus and the genius brothers arrested.

There's an ideal amount of water to drink every day.
There's also an amount of water to drink that will kill you. Literally. People have died from drinking too much water. It's called water intoxication and is dangerous because it dilutes the salt in your body.

I don't know what effect drinking more than is ideal, but not enough to kill you, has.

This article suggests that 3.0 liters per day is what you should shoot for. Diet, exercise, environment and your personal body can all change that number.

You're drinking multiple times that amount. I doubt that the human body has mechanisms to deal with that much safely, so you very well could be doing yourself harm, although that's pure speculation on my part.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_intoxication

The above says that healthy kidneys can handle 0.24 gal/hour. So if you drink more than one gallon in four hours, you're putting yourself at risk, because the water stacks up and you start diluting your electrolytes. (And it sounds like you do drink that much.)
