Glad to hear you're OK. If I'd paid only $600, I wouldn't even bother to fix the dent.

Motorcycle riding is a blast that everyone should have the opportunity to experience once, but I just can't get as excited about doing it on public streets. If it's not cops, it's squidly kids trying to showoff their skills and pull dangerous stunts around you.

Bummer about dropping your scooter.
I am working real hard not to drop mine.
If I do it will probably be after I install my Carbon D&D.
Sure, screw up the NEW muffler.
Speaking of CB550's, my brother-in-law had one and I use
to ride it from time to time while he was in the Navy.
That's a good first bike. It's heavy and slow.

Cthree - good thing it was a cheap bike!!! I dropped my GPZ in the rain at about the same 10mph from slipping on oil at a stoplight...DUH! My face matched the red paint of the bike.

Are you moving up to a bigger bike soon, now that you got that one spill out of the way

As for letting others use stuff.... THIS DAMNED GO-CART has drawn the attention of every uncordinated 'tard in the neighborhood.... I am not letting ANYONE drive it but me and my kids.... last thing i need (i don't have a job right now either) is for them to break our go-cart plus damage someone else's property that I would have to pay for!

That sucks. The CB550 is a great bike. All of the "Four" series from honda were incredible machines, especially the "F" (SuperSport) models. I had a 1976 CB750F that I got from my uncle when I was a teenager. He really abused that bike and it had 60,000 miles on it when I got it. I rode it for almost 10 years and put another 50,000 miles on it. It was absolutely bulletproof. Other than chain/tires/brakes, the only thing that I ever replaced was one ignition coil (it had 2, and when the one failed, I rode it home about 100 miles on 2 cylinders). Not many motorcycles last over 100,000 miles. I miss that bike...

OK, all this talk of vintage Japanese bike's has gotten me looking in the classifieds.
I love the old bikes.
Much easier to store than vintage cars and cheaper too.

txst,

The reason that not many motorcycles last over >100K miles is that most (at least sportbikes) seem to be crashed before they log any serious miles. BMW owners, though, seem to take pride in how many miles they can get...200K+ is not at all uncommon!

You're right. I had a guy that I went to college with a guy who had over 120K on his Bimmer.

I was still amazed at that CB750F. It was totally abused it's whole life. Yet, when I sold it, it had the original clutch, starter, alternator, fork seals, shocks, etc. and did not burn or leak a drop of oil. The bike was absolutely bulletproof.
