Dubai
Dubai is certainly a destination place. There is a lot going on financially and business wise.
The shopping, especially for gold and gold jewellery is one of the best in the world if that is your thing
Hot as hell during day and night.
People are rude as well, but that's just the local culture. I didn't mind the people being so short, however some british tourists were disgusted with the locals manners, i pointed out to them that that's just how they were. bloody whinging poms.

I would like to hear why you have such strong feelings about the UAE ttb.
And 'all' the people are not rude. Every society has their share of rude people and an entire country should not be judged by them.
I have lived here practically all my life and there are a number of good things about living in Dubai:
- Multicultural
- Up and coming metropolitan city
- Good standard of living
- No income and other silly taxes
- Best place to buy and run cars (cheap fuel)
- Low crime rate
- Can buy anything and everything over here (except comic books!)
Yes there are a lot of cons as well, but again this is in every society. For example, expatriates will never be able to get the rights of the citizens, no matter how long they have lived here.
There are many of us on the forum who live in Dubai and I'm sure that none of us are sadomasochists that are here to torture ourselves.
As a tourist destination, I think that Dubai will probably be a better place to see in a couple of years. The rate of construction has really left it in a bit of a mess with traffic and sites everywhere. If you like the beach, watersports etc. this is also a great place.
We even have an indoor ski slope with temperatures of -3 degrees now - in the desert!
Sorry for the rant, maybe your question just didn't come across the right way!
