Dubai isn't being run off of oil.
Not directly. But it does not take a genius to undertsand that oil is in fact the foundation for that region of the world.

It's ingnorant ass holes like you and ttb that make this country the most hated place in the entire world.
I thought that honor was bestowed upon the South Africans.

I feel pitty that your so ignorant that you can't open your eyes and experience what other cultures have to offer.
I can. I travel weekly -- all year long -- year an year out. It just happens to be in this case that their culture doesn't have a lot to offer for blonde haired blue eyed westerners.

Reverse the situation and dump a UAE'r in the middle of Arkansas. 100 years ago those hicks were walking around screwing their sisters and killing black people. When the religious nuts finally ruin what is left of the crumbling American empire they will be right back doing the same -- although you could argue that mexicans will replace blacks this time around. The middle of Arkansas is in fact not a place someone from the mideast would wish to visit either.

What do you expect them to be, civilized and polite to outsiders?

Yeah -- that would seem like a rude thing to say if it was not true. Sad -- but there it is.
Steve, I think this is the one and only time I 110% agree with you.

You are also correct in stating that it doesnt take Einstein to understand the country is almost entirely, although not 100% directly, relying on oil.

Anyone who says otherwise is simply kidding themselves.

not sure why i'm an ignorant ahole. it seems logical that the UAE is not a beacon of freedom and liberty, which makes me curious why Dubai is such a major tourist destination. it'd be like wanting to visit the USSR back in the 80s - from a Westerner's POV would be kinda odd. what i'm thinking is the that Dubai is a very different from the rest of the UAE. Or are you saying the UAE is very different from the rest of the middle east?

I see your point but saying what you said can (and did) offend some folks.
Brazil is not a beacon of democracy either but people still go there in droves. Ditto China, etc..

So your S will be running on Camel shit once the oil runs out. Is that your next mod?

I'm not picking sides, but responding like an idiot, requires an idiotic response.

At least they take care of their people without insane taxes. They live it up because their economy allows for this. Some of us pay 33% of our hard earned money to help support certain programs like Welfare...

why would you even respond to a little dip sh1t like steve c.
I like it the way he thinks...it just solidifies the stereotype he falls into.
Keep on living in your fishbowl steve c...and please don't ever come out!

I won't be around for that day, neither will you.

And how do they do this? Where does the money come from and what happens when it goes away? The idiot comment seems a bit ironic.

Would that be the stereotype of a first generation American married to a foriegner who travels every week, has been to most parts of the world and spends a considerable amount of time out of the states every year? Do you think that maybe my perspective, harsh as it is might be based on the reality of having traveled and not getting offended by said stereotypes. Thing is -- reality sucks and it has no manners, some folks just don't want to own up to it.

Steve,

You seem to always infer to how you have traveled the world. Some of us have done like-wise but we do not make it a point to prove out anything discussed on this site.

You think oil prices are regulated by the Saudis? Simply look at the current oil stocks and company profits and you will find out who really controls oil prices.

Buy a electric car next time and than post up on this thread. Then you can talk shiet all you want about UAE.
