Default DVI VS Composite???

Hi guys I just got a upgraded digital cable box from my cable provider and I noticed it has a DVI output for my HDTV. I was just wondering what are the advantages of getting a DVI cable compared to a composite and if there is noticable better resolution or signal clarity.

The composite is basically TV quality; if I remember correctly you're getting something like 300-350 lines of horizontal resolution. The DVI will work up to the HDTV maximum so you could theoretically, depending on what format the tv station is broadcasting, get up to like 1080 lines of horizontal resolution. Use the DVI if you can.

As far as answering your question, since you seem to actually be asking about component vs. DVI instead of composite vs. DVI, the difference is pretty minimal. The main thing DVI will get you is that it probably supports the new copy protection standard that came out recently. Straight component won't support that and may not work at some point in the future with copy protected HD programming.

If you go DVI don't get scammed by the Monster Cable for $100. It's overpriced. WAY OVER. Get one from www.pacificcable.com. Remember to get the one you need male to male, male to female, etc, the one that applies to your box and tv. Single link is fine.
