Default which 50"-55" TV should I get?

I need another TV. i have a 50" Sony Wega (~2 years old)... but I need another one.....

any suggestions / experiences? i don't need a "PLASMA" (i don't give a shit about 16" deep vs 5" deep)..... should I get an extended warranty? it would be $400 for 4 years.... In 4 years these TVs will probably be worth about $200....

50" Hitachi LCD Projection for $999

55" Sony Wega LCD Projection for $1499

O ya... any place better than another? bestbuy vs circuit city?

I just got this Samsung 56" 1080p tv last Saturday.. and it is awesome. The price changes on a weekly basis, it was $1899.99 a couple of weeks ago at Best Buy.

Scot, Sony SXRD is the best value/performance. I should've sold you the set I got from a gambling rewards program but I gave it to a relative instead. Oh yeah and Best Buy vs Circuit City.. whichever is cheaper! They both carry almost the same things. Sometimes Best Buy will issue a 12% off coupon.

Never buy high-end electronics from a place like Best-Buy, try pricegrabber.com and save $300, easily.

edit - at www.pricegrabber.com. they want $250+ to ship that big of a TV....that is all the savings basically.....

I would be better off just getting it locally i think.

Bestbuy is good, that's where I got mine. I've had a Samsung 50" DLP for almost 4 years now with no problems, great picture.

Check them out on www.avsforum.com, you'll get more than enough info to confuse you.

On that note, how come you haven't asked your tenants which TV to get? I figure they should all have nice TVs

Scot,

If you've got a Sears nearby, DEFINITELY go with them. They'll price match the cheapest price you find. Service plans are also negotiable. I wouldn't go with the plan UNLESS it includes bulb replacement.

Hitachi's are great! I own an RPTV from them and couldn't be happier with the PQ. Mitsu's make great DLPs as well. Sony's SXRD is also exceptional, though I won't buy ANY Sony (personal beef with them).
