I found this on a Saab messageboard.

http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/performance/....html?bID=23546

Basically the guy said he dynoed a WRX and got 167 HP to the wheels.

Is this correct? Since the WRX is AWD and I heard dynoing an AWD vehicle is done a different way.

Another thing, I really hate that board, I hate having a Saab.

It's a hate and love relationship.

So anyone have any info about this dyno thing?

Here in Australia they are generally tested on a Dyno Dynamics that has 2 rollers; one for each pair of wheels. I think it's not an inertia based dyno but one that has electric motor(s) counteracting the torque from the wheels. The current required tells you how much "tractive effort" and thus power is being developed.

Mostly a stock WRX will develop about 95kW at the wheels on a Dyno Dynamics. That's just under 130hp and is much lower than what you'd get on other dynos.
