Unless you are in a finincial "situation," I wouldn't wait for insurance. Call around, most places offer a significant discount for self pay. A visit to a primary may cost around $150. Well worth the peace of mind it will bring. Mention to the doc you are self pay and he/she will be less likely to refer you if you don't really need it.

Tinnitus could be so many things. Though I can not guarentee it, I doubt that you'll have a stroke by the time you go to the doctor. You are not the right profile to have carotid stenosis.

If it makes you feel any better, I"ve had tinnitus many times. It always has gone away.

now go answer the door.
