Emergency Room Question, what would you do?
two nights ago my wife had to have an ambulance take her to the E.R. because she she was in extreme pain after tweaking her back. she has two herniated discs in her back (was involved in a serious car accident about 5 years ago) She needed to lay flat or else she would be in great pain.
once at the E.R. rather than putting her in a flat bed they sat her upright in a wheel chair. she was in the chair for about 45 minutes, crying, while I had to ask them 2-3 times if we could just lay her flat. They said no we had to wait for a room to be cleaned so she can go in for X-Ray. Once in the room we waited hours, all she was givin was Darvocet, which did absolutely nothing for her pain, then they gave her a shot of something, still nothing...then basically they told us we had to go!
Today she want to her family Dr. was treated greatly, given the proper drugs for her injury, and went to a different hospital for her MRI, which also treated her a lot better. Always kept her flat other than when having to be transported out in a wheelchair.
My question is, with the first hospital, would you file a complaint in this situation, they were fully aware of her medical condition with the herniated discs. Did they follow proper procedure? We just were not satisfied with the experience. The people were not necessarily unfriendly, but they didn't seem to care much either...other than a couple nurses.

Agreed. I think I would've gotten out of the chair and laid on the floor. I think hospitals get cavalier about patients' pain and start to assume there isn't any pain at all. a very bad approach
.....just like that lady who died on the floor in the waiting room that was all over the news a few weeks ago.
def. file a complaint and get some compensation,....for instance paying your deductible if need be

I agree with Mikey about just laying on the floor. If it helps then who gives a damn what they say. Worst case you would have been thrown out and had to goto a hospital that actually gave quality care.
As for filing a complaint, good luck. It may make you feel better on the inside but you will get nothing in return. Your best bet is to never goto that hospital again and tell as many people as you can about the bad experience in the hopes they dont go there as well.
