Nope. Actually Transportation was my major of choice. There are no animation classes/majors at Art Center. The class that was taught wasn't even an animation course, rather a "design course" for the entertainment industry. I took it because it was my final term at that school and I've filled up all the required classes for my major, so I decided I wanted stuff outside of my major. It was the first time "Visual Development" (which is my current position @ DW) class offered at that school. I never thought of animation as a field I'd venture into (thats usualy reserved for Illustration or animation majors), but oh well

Saint_Spinner, what work have you done for dreamworks so far? dreamworks does some amazing work.
this year ill be going to community college to get a game plan for my major. i want to venture into the art field, mainly animation and possibly film, (direcor/producer). art comes naturally to me, so does filming and photography. i have to take a computer design course so that next semester all of the other art computer classes will be available to me. in the future id like to work for pixar or dreamworks. maybe ILM. If all goes well maybe ill just create my own company after getting my feet wet in the field. any advice for me?

On the positive side, you won't have to keep "bumping" it up to the top.
I did a little design for Shrek 2, but I came on so late none of it made the movie. Anyways, the majority of my work was done for Shark Tale..I designed alot of the backgrounds, props and a majority of the machinery in the Whale Wash. I'm currently on another movie, but I'm not allowed to talk about it
Its defiently a fun field, but very, very competetive. If your not the best, or know somebody, its very hard to get into these major companies. I nearly went to ILM, but that would mean I would have had to relocate...luckily DW offered a couple days after.
So far your on the right step, the advice I'd give is relocate
Yeah, I know! WTF??!! But it sure helps if your in the area! This way, you can visit the studios, show portfolios, "get discovered" and etc....Make friends with people in the industry, because like everyone said, sometimes skills alone aren't enough. Be friends with your instructors and experienced people. Its the best bet to get your foot in the door. You also should know what you want to do. Animate? Design?(character?, layout?, props? etc.) Model? Surfacing? There are many fields in animation, which makes it good for everyone. Find your strenghts...I for one can't model for shit (used to, but grew tired of modeling other people's stuff real quick). Hope that helps! good luck.
