The epic struggle with the keg...
Ok, so last night I went to a friend's house and we were going to go out to a bar. The problem was, we barely had enough money to cover the cab, much less drinks. My friend was housesitting, and as we walked into her garage to go upstairs to get ready, and what do we find, but a keg! The owner of the house said we could help ourselves to whatever was in the house, so we went searching for a tap. We looked everywhere, but there was no tap to be found. We werent about to just sit there and look at the keg, so we started getting creative. I pushed down the little ball-bearing with a set of pliers and jammed a coat hanger in the hole to keep it open. We then proceded to hold the keg upside-down over a pitcher and shook it. The beer came out drip-by-drip and after about 30-45 min, we filled up the pitcher. We then walked upstairs (reeking of beer from failed attempts to get it into the pitcher) to reap the benefits of our hard work. I noticed the beer was a little dark, so I held it up to the light, and there was crap floating around in it! I took a taste and it tasted like a mixture of beer, wine, and apple cider. After over an hour of trying to get into the keg, the beer turned out to be bad! The "born on" date for the keg was in june, and I guess it had been opened and kept in the garage since then. Well, that is the end of my story about the epic stuggle between man and keg.
BTW, Would I have gotten sick from drinking the chunky beer?

LOL ... same thing happened to some "house sitters" at my place.
Our CO2 tank went flat, so the beer soon followed. After a few months, it smelled pretty much like straight vinegar. The house sitters (all under 21) saw the keg, and decided to help themselves.
THe next day, I just happened to come over to go get the CO2 refilled, and they wondered what kind of beer was in there ... because it tasted "kinda funny".
BTW - alot of micro brews do have some "chunky stuff" in them from teh brewing process. When you turned the keg upside down to fill the pitcher, you dumped the chunks out. Widmer Hefe does a similar thing, because at the brewery they store the kegs upside down. When they deliver them to you, you get it right side up, so the beer is cloudy for the first few days (although not "chunky"
). If the chunks were from beer, you should be fine .. if they are chunks of mold / rotten beer, that would be another story.

yeah. sediment in a fine ale is normal. i've done some brewing "in my time" and some debris is nothing to worry about. Assuming that the beer isnt contaminated you would be fine. In fact the longer it sits (to a certain point) the higher the alcohol content, as the remaining sugars get turned into alcohol.
You know how all those white trash beers say they're filtered....??? Thats because white trash is afraid of the sediment. It's too distracting to stare into your beer bottle when there is NASCAR to be watched.

been there, done that, at a friends party . . .its a terrible feeling looking at all that beer with no way to get into it , but its even more comical when the tap breaks after everyone is already drunk
