Ever bribe a cop????
I just wanted to see if anyone here has ever bribed a cop (with money, donuts
, or other
)and what the experience was like. Did they take it or not?
Every time I get a ticket, I am tempted to just slip the cop a couple of twenties with my license, but I am too scared that he will arrest me for trying to bribe an officer.
Share your thoughts/experiences/tips! Thanks.

I spent 2 years in Thailand, and bribing officials was a daily occurance. A 500 baht bill (about $20) could get you out of most anything.
My best strategy was to act ill (coughing and sneezing) while negotiating my "fine". The Thais were pretty germ-phobic, so I typically got off light to avoid exposure. Just sneeze on a 500 bill and you can get away with paying a 100.

I can confirm that there are corrupt cops in Mexico. I was just in Cabo last month and turned the wrong way down a one way street
. You could barely see the arrows on the road. And as luck would have it, I did this right in front of a cop. He didn't speak a word of English, but stopped some guy on the street to translate. I had a choice...either go to the station with him, or I could slip him a few bucks and he would just kind of "forget about it." After hearing all kinds of horror stories about Americans never coming home after police encounters, I gave the guy a $20 and was on my way. I was extremely pissed about it at the time, but looking back, it was the best thing I could have done.
