It would cost me ~$850 per month plus insurance, etc.... and the plant guys basically live paycheck to paycheck driving a 1998 dodge neon.

I didn't tell the plant guys not to go to college, but I have decided to not get an NSX. I hate to stir the pot and have everyone all pissed off that I am driving something more expensive than their houses.
I wouldn't feel bad driving an NSX or another high end car to work. Afterall you are their "boss" and they are your "workers".

IMO, a lot of people just don't understand that skills equals money. hard work alone doesn't do it; just look at the guys in scot's company.

I went to school for a total of 7 years (of college) and I'm very happy with where I am today. I'm 29 now and I think I'll be doing even better in 5 years. I feel bad for those less fortunate, but a big reason they are where they are is they chose not to learn skills. Sure, luck plays a part, but many of them are where they are due to choices they made.

Everyone I work with thinks I'm rich or get paid more because I drive the S2000...I keep telling them you get more for you money buying slightly used.

Why feel bad about it. You could lose it all tomorrow.

Typical college grad reply

Not for nothing but hard work pays too! I know drywall hangers that make $8 a sheet and can finish over 50 a day.

Also I didn't go to school, to your point I did learn skills. Just not conventionally . Instead of 7 years of college, I'll take my salary without a loan and 7 more years of hard work. I'm nearly at 6 figures now. While I know I'm an exemption to the rule, I got here because of that hard work that doesn't pay.

I only feel bad if I'm not doing something good with what I've been given. To gain and never give is probably the biggest curse a person can have.

Unfort, attitudes like that start Union drives around here. We currently don't have a Union (not sure why not), but little things spark big problems.

The last thing they want to see is me driving a $70k NSX. They know I have rental properties, etc.... but they see how little "manual" labor I do and just associate that with me being a jerk...ahha......

If i drove a Vette, they probably wouldn't care.... made in the USA!

Interesting topic indeed. IMHO, success is maybe 10% hard work and 90% luck. Hear me out. I have two friends, both 32yo. One went to Berkeley, the other a community college drop out. The guy at Berkeley graduated but at the time could not find a job. I think for the past 3.5years he hasn't done much except now helps his uncle crunch numbers at the gas station. Boy he spends 40+ hours crunching and I think pulls in less than $20K? That's hard and tiring work my friend. He tells me unless something comes by he'll just stick with it!

Then there's my community college drop out friend who everybody thought would never succeed. I never once saw her in class. Well, she one day decided to file her own income tax form since she could no longer pay H&R Block. She bought a few of those 'Dummy Guide To...' books and for the past 6 years, been filing taxes for friends. Well, one day one of her friends decides to let her do all his company's work and believe it or not that drop out friend of mine just made $122K last year! All this and she still isn't certified! What's even crazier is she told me she can no longer take in more clients! WTF? Both friends of mine put in just as much time as the other but how do you explain it?

Very true Wantone...imagine being the guy sitting next to Bill Gates and noticing him drop out of Harvard, saying to yourself, what a dumbass dropping out of one of the best schools in the country only to see him a few years later as the richest man in the world. It happens all the time.
