anyway, the whole idea about seiko or whatever, there is a difference.
I've owned cheap watches before thinking "whats little less gold and 400 less movement gonna change?".
well, first the material it's used - lasts longer. My omega and tag heur has lasted through my cheap $100 over and over and over again through the years. it's either the seal, or mechanism, or dials, or it's always something that breaks on the cheap watches. sapphire cystal wont scratch like your g-shock plastic face. your zinc coated band will turn your skin to green, while gold, stainless steel or unobtainium wont.
second, if you try to sell your $30 seiko on ebay, or goto Mayors and ask them to clean it, they'll laugh at you and excuse themselves. You have absolutely no value in those things. Even a nice $300 citizen, they depreciate like a rock. Rolex don't depreciate (especially president). They actually appreciate as the gold price goes up through the years.

third, honestly, it's a nice having a feeling of a nice watch on your wrist. It's like a dependable friend and watch should be the only accessory that man should wear, and it actually lets the world know what sort of person you are. Either you're thrifty (no name), CEO (rolex president), rap star (Rolex president with diamonds and rose gold), sporty (nike) and if you wear a fake watch (which many people will notice who knows about watches) would represent you as being a fake person, a person who drives a mercedes s500 but lives with his mom sort of thing.

In a woman's world, this is never true. But in man's world, the best insight to a man that you've just met are the watches they wear and this has been true to me for a long time.

I have a swatch irony chronograph. It's swiss, but I guess I'm not much of a balla.

 

Anybody that thinks they can gain any insight to another person just by looking at the watch they're wearing is a very misguided person.
If a person is wearing a very nice watch, it could be because they're:
- very wealthy and appreciate nice things.
- living on a shoestring budget and maxed out their credit cards so they could impress people with their watch
- related to or friends with someone that gave them the watch as a gift/heirloom.

If someone is wearing a fake nice watch, it could be because they're:
- trying to pretend that they're something they're not.
- interested in nice watches, but realize that they can get more value by buying a knock-off
- not smart enough to realize they got ripped off.

If someone is wearing a cheap watch, it could be because they're:
- flat broke.
- not willing to spend more than 50 bucks on a device whose sole purpose is to tell them what time it is. Even if it's off by a couple of seconds a year, how many people really need to know the time within .0001 seconds?
- not interested in wearing accessories that could make them a more likely target for a would-be mugger.

So... unless you know the actual reasoning behind the type of watch someone is wearing, there's nothing you can honestly tell just by seeing the device wrapped around their wrist. But, it does sound like you're the type of person that would try to make a statement with their accessories. Personally, I'd rather people judge me by my actions, not by what I own.

You just don't get it, do you? A watch says nothing about a person without knowing how or why they obtained the watch.

Maybe you're the type that believes "The clothes make the man." But, personally, I believe "The man makes the man." There are a lot of assholes out there wearing nice clothes (or nice watches or whatever). A better watch seldom implies a "better" person. In fact, I'd be willing to wager that more than half the time it implies just the opposite.

But, hey... if you want to judge me based on my Casio, that's your prerogative. But, as I said... you will be very misguided in doing so.
