Fired my first gun!
Went with a bunch of friends to a place to shoot guns tonight. First time I ever fired a gun before and had a blast! I used a Glock 17 (9mm), since I never fired one before and now I'm hooked. The first few shots weren't very good, but after I got used to the sighting (and the noise from the other shooters), I hit dead center several times. Next time I'm going to try a Glock 21, then step up to a 45 calibur. I must say, I was nervous at first (and my wife was scared, but she did well), but after the first shot, it really got exciting.
Careful... you're going to get really hooked. Years ago I fired a shotgun for the first time when I was invited as a guest to a clay pigeon shoot. The targets were 50 English Sporting Clays. I hit 6 out of 50 and was so disgusted with myself I kept going weekly to try to do better. The following two Sundays I hit 6 ex 50 again.
Probably if I'd have done better about then I'd never have given the sport a second thought.
To cut a long story short I ended up with a cupboard full of guns and another cupboard full of trophies. I also went on to do a lot of game shooting and wildfowling.
At the height of my clay shooting I was shooting 3 days a week! My pal and I used to joke that we'd fired the cost of a Porsche down each barrel of our over/unders!

rstark - welcome to the addiction!
Cedric is absolutely on target (
) shooting can become an expensive hobby.
My first shot was when I was 13. My Dad took me out back, pointed out a 3/4" steel plate 700 yards out in the field and handed me the M1 Garand. I know I did not hit it because I could hardly hold the barrel up, and do I ever remember the kick. Although my shoulder was killing me, all I wanted to do was shoot it again and again. The M1 Garand is a .30 caliber if I remember right. Of all the modern guns, both rifles and handguns that I have shot, the M1 is still to this day my favorite. Dad loads his own cartridges and at 700 yards we can shoot through 1/2" steel. Ain't nothing like the feeling of real power!

My choice of weapon is a Glock 22, 40 cal. Easy to get ammo for and can get more reasonable prices (just don't get the cheap rounds from gun shows; they will cause jams) as 40 cal is the choice of many cops.
The mini Glock 45's just kick too hard, with such a small grip, what were they thinking when they made these pistols? Too much muzzle rise and way to hard to handle under rapid fire.
My 40cal 22 has two 15-round clips. Lots of power and very accurate for a handgun. Still a fair bit of muzzle rise under rapid fire. If I was so inclined, could spend the money to get a fully compensated barrel and slide and be able to put rapid fire rounds into roughly the same target. Great fun!

My handgun of choice is a Sig Sauer P239 9mm. I have rubber combat grips and night sights. It is super accurate! It is so accurate that the first time my wife shot it she got bullseye
It's also very compact if you're looking for something to carry.
My next purchase was this ultra-cool, James Bondish
gun safe
It is a fully functional alarm clock that I use everyday, allows for very quick access, has tamper proof features, is very heavy, and looks like a normal alarm clock to kids and robbers alike
