I'm just curious, what are the average prices of the guns (Glock 22, or 21) and ammo?

Shotguns are fairly easy to acquire in the U.K. and there are many of those about. Until a few years ago, there were no security conditions for keeping a shotgun. Then a guy called Michael Ryan went berserk in Hungerford and slaughtered a lot of people using pistols and military weapons, before taking his own life. In a totally knee jerk reaction to this, the government introduced legislation, requiring all Shotgun Certificate Owners to observe safe keeping regulations, despite the fact that Ryan didn't use a shotgun at all. The same legislation required owners to provide a security gun cupboard for shotguns and also required holders to have their photo on the certificate and to produce it when purchasing ammunition. No bad thing, but the legislation ignored the weapons which Ryan had used at Hungerford.

Pistols, rifles and automatic weapons which are classed in the U.K. as 'Part 1' or 'Section 1' firearms under the Firearms Act, come under different legislation and are more difficult to acquire. Usually a minimum requirement would be that the applicant would have to be a member of an approved gun club. Since the Hungerford incident we have had more than our share of other sickos who have gone on the rampage killing people with 'Part 1' weapons. A huge public anti-gun outcry ensued. As a result, as far as I am aware, it is not now possible for 'Part 1' owners to keep weapons at home. They have to be kept on approved gun club premises under high security conditions.

I love shooting! The first time I shot a gun was with my dad and I will never forget that experience.

Shooting a gun responsibly allows you to respect the power that you have in your hands -- to take life. People who have not shot a gun don't really realize this incredible power, they can only imagine it.

Guns are not evil, just some people are.

Anyway, my father has a bunch of world-class olympic target shooting rifles (he used to shoot professionally) and I shoot with an HK P7 and an HK Mark 23 .45 It's a blast.

Take a shooter safety course. Join a local club. You'll enjoy the sport even more and mabe start competing.
I joined a local shooter's club and used to compete in long range pistol silhoutte and black powder.
Of all the weapons I've shot, I think my 1858 New Army black powder pistol is the most fun.
Is easily as accurate as my Baretta 92F and so much fun to shoot. Just a bit messy. But, cleanup is easy. Take it apart and toss it in a sinkful of soapy water.
The club gives me the contacts to try other guns. It's really good way to support the sport.

The First gun that I shot was a Colt officers model .45 cal. Now my dad has a Glock Model 30 Compact 45 cal. The glock is an awesome piece. I have my great grandfathers Winchester Model 12 20 gauge shotgun. It is pretty old but in excellent condition. After I get me S2K and some mods my next major purchase will be either a compact .45 glock or I was thinking the Heckler and Kock 45 compact.

For the people that think that the compact's has too much kick. The key in purchasing a gun is to find one that fits your hand and also doesnt have to much recoil that you can't handle.

If you go to a sporting goods store, a private citizen can purchase a Glock for, I'd say, upwards of $500, and shells vary (for the 40 cal, only one I've had much experience with) from $9 - $13 for a box of 50 decent target rounds, $18 & up for "personal defense" rounds with hollow points that have more power and make bigger holes.

And it does not take long to blow off 50 rounds; I shoot an average of six boxes of shells at each trip to the range. Mostly the cheaper target rounds.
