Ford Brings Back Nostalgic Car
Ford Motor Company unveiled an updated version of its famed Model T car at the Detroit Auto Show as the automotive giant hopes to stimulate lagging sales with nostalgia.
The new version sports a top speed of 40 mph and comes with such advanced features as an electric starter motor and windshield wipers, turn signals and airbags that the driver or passenger inflate by blowing into a nozzle.
"We believe the Model T will appeal to younger drivers who appreciate the retro look as shown by the popularity of the PT Cruiser. This is surely going to bring a lot people into the showroom," said a Ford senior marketing executive.
Breaking from tradition, however, the car will not come equipped with the original Firestone rubber tires. A company engineer who worked on the development noted that the new model will be fitted with solid steel rings to avoid the possibility of blowouts.
