Question to the posters here - how much time a day/week/month do you think you spend maintaining your computers?

No time at all. Set it up right in the beginning and you never have to do much more than a defrag every month or so.

I have had luck in the past with SpySweeper, have you tried that? You can get the trial version at download.com.

How much time to you spend waiting for the computer to complete defragging? Since the operation takes time away from you using the computer, I'd say it takes more than no time, even if you're not there. Just curious what kind of time its taking from that standpoint.

wipe it clean or get a new hd. seriously, i dont know how people get so many pop ups and viruses. i havent had to reformat my computer for over 3 yrs and i have NO form of antivirus or antispyware. doesnt mean i dont run em but i have no programs on my computer to prevent them. but everytime i do scan, i get less than 10 cases of spyware...
it really depends on your net surfing habbits. if you're the kind of person that just visits the same sites day in and day out, then of course the number of spyware that accumulate on your puter is minimal. those who get a bunch of spyware typically visit all sorts of websites, sketchy or not. it's usually the sketchy ones that end up intalling all those damn spyware on your puter.

I had something similar that no spyware software could get rid of....so i bought a new computer, had my work reformat the old one and gave it to my kids to play on.

Problem solved.

There is no such thing as spyware that can't be removed unless your hard drive crashes after its installed in which case you'd end up with a new hard drive and the spyware would still be removed from your computer.

Of course there is always a delay between the creation of spyware and its undoing.

However if the computer is set up correctly there is no way you'll get spyware in the first place unless you specifically and deliberatly let it in.

Shocking, if you know how to use it you'll be fine.
