Isn't winning a car like the worst thing you can "win"? considering taxes you have to come up with and such?

Gives money to charities? Have you ever heard of a tax write off and another thing called MARKETING?

Her show doesn't deal with pointless drivel???

Her and Dr. Phil are two of the most mindless drivel sheeple supporting shows on tv today and should be shown on Lifetime(the network for victimized women). They deal on a daily basis with constantly sad saps that need others to make themselves feel good about themselves. These are shows that prey on people's insecurities and makes them think they are "ok" because they can finally see that other's share their same insecurities.

Do you honestly think Oprah cares about you? She sure does care about her checks from advertisers.
Has the thought ever occurred to you that maybe these people who donate millions are doing it for good reasons? Maybe the majority of the celebrities/athletes/etc. who have foundations in their names are doing it for PR/tax-writeoffs, but there are people out there who are real philanthropists.

Aside from Oprah giving millions, what do you have to say about her adopting kids? PR? Yeah, I'm sure Oprah stuffs her kids in closets when alone, and only "uses" them in front of cameras...

Open your eyes man. The world is not such a dark and forbidding place. There are people who have the resources to help people, and are actually doing it for THAT reason.

Now, about this car giveaway, this is just a stupid publicity stunt meant as advertising for Pontiac.

Oprah has a net worth over a $1 bln dollars. Do you think that at her place, and station in life, that her sole motivation is to get more money? I don't think so. But, some people will always rain shit on the parade...

Oprah rules plain and simple.

If any of you Oprah haters had grown up in abject poverty and abuse like her and became what she is.

If any of you could come close to achieving 1/10 % of her success then maybe you'd have room to talk, otherwise you are just talking out of your ignorant rear ends.

You really should take your own advice.

The audience did not enter a contest, or "win" a car. Therefore it is probably not taxable to them. If it could be considered a gift from Oprah (not saying it could) then it definately would not be taxable. (Donor pays any gift taxes).

I don't care, I still hate that fattie. She's only rich because she has a talk-show and this is America, where a little fame will bring in massive $$$. And she's been doing it for decades, hence lots of massive $$$. There's nothing special about her or her "achievements". She's an idiot!

i think a few people don't know how charitable deductions work. They are not a 1:1 tax write-off. Oprah basically saves $.39 in taxes for each $1 she donates. The goal of charitable contributions is not tax write-offs...people do it because they care.
