You have never wanted to single out a group of people for use in a conversation? There has to be some word that is non-offensive to every group that you can address them by.

You can call white people "white"
You can call women "women"
You can call Jews "Jews"

But you CAN'T call blacks "blacks"
you are right and its inescapable. As an exercise I try to describe people by other traits. It doesn't always work, but its my way of trying.

the problem with trying to describe people in any different way is the same reason politaclly correct terms never work:

you are only replacing the word

retarded, afflicted, slow, handicapped, handi-capable, varing exceptionality etc all mean the same thing, and that is: "something is different with that one"

black, afro-american, colored, nubian etc etc still mean the same thing

the focus should be on changing the perception of the definition. you cant change anyone else but you can change yourself. if enough people understood this and made changes for themselves we would not have to be dealing with any of this nonsense.

minority rappers: stop degrading yourselves and your women. preach about something beyond your bling and cars and dope. Youmay not want to be a role-model but by the very charge of your station you are so do whats right and stop perpetuating violence and diviant behavior and attitudes

minority political leaders: stop self promoting yourselves and speak out about what is really wrong. concentrate on promoting a better self image and the importance of education. teach your people to respect themselves and to strive to be the best they can be on their own....HELL use the plethora of resources already supplied to you and get an education...better yet respect the advantages that are given to you and respect yourself enough to PAY ATTENTION AND LEARN from the education being supplied to you now.

take steps to change the way you as singular person is percieved by others. if enough people do that, the rest will folow

But you can look at this statement in another way:

Say you are a high-earning parent (250k/year) that has kids in the local elementary school. Do you want your hard-earned dollars to make your childs education better or to go to a school across the country that you will never benefit from?

I am just playing the devil's advocate here and agree that it would level the field if every school had the same funding.
I see your point..I guess I am saying that tax dollars be they from a 10K family or a 190k family should buy the same PUBLIC education in the USA! California tax dollars went toward "THE BIG DIG" in Boston so this concept of using money for more than one locale is not in its infancy....

I'm not talking about changing the word, I'm talking about the whole way of describing. Only when possible too. For instance someone here lost her cell phone and I found it. It had a picture of her son, so I knew it was hers because she's the only person of that race that works in that area. So I told the desk clerk, "I think this belongs to Dr. Soandso because ive seen him before." Rather than saying it has a picture of a black baby so its probably hers. I'm not saying I'm great or tooting my horn, I'm just trying to avoid using race religion creed to describe people.

thats not always true. because I cannot control what others do, and I cannot push my ideals on them. All black people's ideals are not the same, same with any race.

As a senior in computer engineering, I'm not in any way changing people's views of 'black' people. Instead, people just say I'm acting 'white.'

So... **** trying to change what people think. Its hard to know if people are actually racist or not, because some are saying 'look, I have lots of black friends' and stuff like that. That means nothing to me. Doesn't mean you are racist, doesn't mean you are not. And when people cry 'reverse racism' it doesn't mean anything to me, because it's hard to find out when people are complaining about valid or invalid issues. That's the same way I handle racism rants... indifferently. As a black man, if you back any sort of 'racism' a hundred other white people will say you are needlessly complaining. Oh well. I'm gonna get what I can, enjoy life and not worry what anyone of my race or yours is doing or saying.

Racism will never die. Ever. I see evidence lending support to this tragic fact every. single. f-ing. day.

This us v them hysteria is as absolutely pathetic as it is prevalent.

Oh, and this priceless little line of self-congratulatory reasoning:
