Well how much is too much for a beginner bike? I've been looking at the $200-$400.
Also how do you feel about DK bikes?Looked at a few yesterday and really liked the eight pack. Also rode on a 2007 GT Fueler and really like that and the guy at the shop recommended the '08 which is about $450 and kinda outta what I wanna pay.

dk makes to me what i consider "ok" bikes......i use to race the race frame they make,..the complete bikes they sell are just .....nothing special, i personally wouldnt trust the lower end the way i ride.
id stay away from Gt too,..it use to be a baller company but has been sold to Pacific Bicycle company i believe it was, who also operates Mongoose,...which we can now buy at Wal-mart. but then again,...Huffy use to make bikes sold at wal-mart and then turned the tables and made some good stuff .
if you plan on jumping at all,....which i am sure u do,...dont slack and keep a bike with 1 piece cranks, switch them out asap to 3 piece. snapping a crank on a landing is no fun.
its not a cheap hobby, under 500 is what id go for. although the last 4 of my bikes have run well over 1500.

Maybe I'll eventually work my way up from a $500 to a $1500 bike(did it when I learned how to play a guitar).
Alsdo alotta the bikes I've looked at come with 3pc. chromoly
cranks ,should I upgarde further from this?

3 piece cromoly is fine. If you looked at the Dans Comp site, you see there are numerous options, but for the most part they're all good, it just comes down to how much you want to pay. If you want a no-brainer, get Profiles. Absolutely rock solid, and not too expensive.
