One of my co-workers filled up a lunch today and the station he went to had already jacked-up their price by over $0.30/gal. Freaking gouging bastards!

The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries pledged Sept. 11 to maintain a stable oil supply following a rise in oil prices after the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, Kyodo news agency reported. OPEC Secretary-General Ali Rodriquez Araque said member nations will guarantee a sufficient supply of crude oil and are also prepared to use their excess production capability to maintain a stable supply. 1951 GMT, 091101

Sheesh, oil companies will use _any_ excuse to raise prices. With air travel out of the question, the next few days will involve a lot more driving across the nation, and we're being gouged... What a load of crap!

Our local radio station predicted a 30c rise on a gallon by tonight because no tankers are coming from L.A. (which is 65 miles south). Also, the bank on the 1st floor sent a message to the other tenants in this building to say that they expect to run out of money sometime this afternoon, because no armored cars are making deliveries from L.A. to outlying cities.

It looks like this crisis is going to affect almost everyone in the world in some way or another, sooner or later.

An update on fuel prices. The major oil companies have not or will not be jacking prices by more than .05 at 12am tonight. The smaller ,unbranded oil companies will jack the prices by as much as 30 cents a gallon. The difference in price of NL out of 15 different companies is 38 cents. If you are being gouged it is on the local level at this point.

I can tell you local gas stations here in Orlando have raised prices as much as 12 cents or more since this morning....with some only selling from the "premium" pumps.

Bastards!!!

Some of our local bastards are planning on raising prices by $1 or more, and some have already I believe.

We (the upper midwest) already pay the most of anyone, keep gouging us guys! We really don't mind paying more for less. Anything to make you, the oil companies, more profit is good in my book!

Raging sarcasm at this terrible hour. Sorry

No apparent change here in Richmond (2 hours south of DC). I just filled up both cars. I think it was $1.38/gal for regular which is what I seem to recall it's been lately.

Oh, yeah - the gas stations were mostly empty. In fact, I think they were less busy than usual. Same with the roads - it's kind of wierd.

I hate paying more for gas as much as anyone, but we have it pretty good compared to much of the rest of the world. Low taxes and low margins on fuel allow us to drive what we want w/o being dictated by fuel costs...

BUT, having previously worked in the downstream petroleum industry, it's not very profitable. We'd dump hundreds of millions of dollars into refinery projects, and be at the mercy of margins which usually generated returns below the cost of capital. When an "event" such as the Gulf war occurred and margins became somewhat reasonable, the public and govt. started crying foul.

We all pride ourselves on living in a capitalistic society, but somehow think we have the right to cheap fuel. That's one reason I left the industry...I knew I'd never get rich in it. Take almost any other industry, and the only ramification for overpricing is lost market share. (though I think gouging based on today's events is pretty crappy)

I'm on the phone with my friend and he just drove by a gas station and he said that the price was $4.99 per gallon. I haven't been out yet, so I haven't seen anything personally yet.
