Although I must say now that Honda has resolved the 2nd gear syncro issue, my opinion of Honda Service is much better!

These have been the same rumors that have existed for the last 8 months- with absolutely nothing to substantiate them. Honda is the best at keeping these sort of secrets so don't be suprised if this rumor isn't even close, which IMO it probably isn't, at least the pricepoint. Even that picture has been around on various internet rumor pages for close to a year now. Sorry to burst your bubbles.

The NSX is my true dream car. The $88,000 price tage takes it out of my league.....for now.
If the really come down in price with the new model, I just may have to reconsider the S.
The S2000 is still badass.

My wife and I both have NSXs (we have had 5 between us), I am the co-editor of NSX DRIVER Magazine, President of the Southcentral Region of the NSX Club of America, owner of
http://wwwnsxsc.com
and
www.nsxca.org so I can give you some input on the next gen NSX.
From what I have been told by good sources:
- TOP 10 LIST -
1.) It will be a V-8, 390 HP. I have heard 4.0, 4.2, and 4.5L. I would think it will be double the S2000, so 4.0L is my GUESS.
2.) Made of steel
3.) $55k price is what some say, but I think that will be in today's money. So expect $65-70k+ in 3 years when it comes out.
4.) It could be out in 2002 as a 2003.
5.) It may not be called an NSX. Acura is has been using alpa-numeric naming. 3.2RL, 3.0TL, etc. But the "MDX" (new SUV) gives all hope that Honda will do the right thing and call it an NSX. Once the next Integra comes out, we should know for sure. If they do call it an Integra, we may be happy! If it is called a 1.8IT or something, don't bet on an "NSX", it will be a 4.0SX or something.
6.) Look for S2000 technology in the next NSX. I'm not the expert on S2000's, so I have no idea what that means. But it has something to do with the syncos in the gear box, values, head design, body structure, etc.?
7.) The pictures posted above are not the next NSX. I was told that by someone at Honda. They said the styling has not been finalized.
8.) Limited production for sure; like the S2000.
9.) No performance claims have been made to me, but expect Honda raise the bar just as it did in 1990. As did the current NSX, don't expect it to out run the Viper in 0-60 times, but it will dust it in braking, handling, fuel milage, ride, design, quality, safty, and on and on...
10.) I have heard that Honda will have two versions, a high putput and standard version. They do that now with the Type-S and S-Zero, so expect nothing different. However, they usually focus on lightening and tightening. This time they may add HP. Price differance? Who knows... it may be a Japn only thing... like the current model. But who cares, we have Dali Racing, RM Racing, and Comptech to help us!
That's all I know. I heard all of this based on rumors from NSXers, dealers, Honda employees, etc. But no facts.
Oh yeah, I'm also the S2000 and NSX editor of DMOZ.org, the largest open directory project in the world for websites. This database is where big searhc engines add websites from. If you have an S2000 site, submit it to: <a href="http://www.dmoz.org/Recreation/Autos/Makes_and_Models/Honda/S2000/>DMOZ.org</a>
One last point, if you are interested in NSXs, you should join the free email lists. We have one national list and 6 regional one's. The Big List will have posts from time-to-time about the next NSX, tech talk, and general BS. The regional lists focus on local events and track talk. You guys are just hearing about this now??? I have been 1st on the list at Jones in Lancaster for three months now. No definite info, just like when I was on the list for the S2000.
The one thing that is lowering the cost that was not mentioned is the NSX / S2000 / Insight factory is being retooled to make this car with machines instead of hand built like before, but again thats what I have HEARD.
Anyway, I will have my S2000 paid off long before then, so I guess it just makes sense to buy that car.
I agree that the name should Stay NSX, if not no big deal.
Finally, I hope they badge it as a Honda, but they won't (So I will)
