Default Georgia Earthquake?

Was it fun? I love ~4-5 quakes But I'm from CA and have been thru the 7.1 loma prieta quake of the late 80's.

Its not normal for quakes in Georgia.

Not Georgia! Alabama. I know it isn't anything like you have in California. It registered a 4.9 on the ricter scale, and scared me to death.
A few people I work with are from California, and said this was slightly different from there. A sonic boom accompanied our earthquake. Having never experienced an earthquake before, I was scared as hell this morning at 4am! All I heard was a loud sounding explosion, and then my house shook. I thought the Boeing plant near me had exploded, since they research and design majority of the missillies for the military here. It then took 45 mins for the U.S. Geological Survey to tell us it was an earthquake.
Just my first hand take on it.

Oh, and they have to find the worst people to interview for these stories. Not everyone here is that neck!

I live in GA. I was asleep when it happened and I woke up confused. Yeah, it happened in Al but was felt in Ga.

I thought I was having one of those dreams where you are falling endlessly into a black hole/tunnel. When i woke, the whole place was shaking, but i was still half a sleep and was weirded out by the whole thing. Didn't realize it was an earthquake till i read the news this morning.

4.9 quakes are fun. A little shake rattle and roll. I live about 10 miles from the 1989 Loma Prieta epicenter. Now that was a quake. (It wasn't the San Francisco quake and neither was the so called 1906 San Francisco quake that actually was in Santa Rosa). They just felt it. Snapped trees here. It was ugly. The shaking snapped the ball cock in my toilet tank. That's how violently it shook. I seriously thought it was a nuclear attack. I ran outside and looked for the "mushroom cloud."
It was an unusually hot day Oct 17th at 5:04 pm. The sky went dark as if the sun were being eclipsed. No birds chirping. Just an eerie quiet. Then it hit. Light poles swayed sickenly back and forth and the power lines whipped around like snakes. Huge SUVs danced around like toys on the rippling ocean like pavement. I had to put my arms out to keep from falling. This went on for 15 long seconds. When it stopped, people started emerging from their burning homes all bloodied and blugeoned. Fires broke out all over and explosions were heard through the blaring car and house alarms. Dogs and cats went beserk and chased around. Dogs attacking cats and anyone else standing still. People were generally well behaved. Most walked around in a daze. All emerergency people were way out numbered and busy. We were really on our own. No lights, no protection and no place to sleep. My house looked like it was raining inside because of the broken fixtures. We had to sleep outside for 3 days because of the aftershocks. Some measuring 6 and above. Huge aftershocks with a warning that an 8 or larger quake may be triggered. I wasn't going to put my family back in the house. We were lucky. Our family owns a grocery store. Many people had no provisions at all. Only cash was good because there was no power or means for taking credit cards or checks.
Moral: Be prepared. Have propane tanks full at all times. Two or more is better. Have cash and water filters. Canned goods are a must. First aid kit. Many people learned to keep used 2 litre water bottles in their freezer. Wash them and then fill them with clean filtered water and then freeze. That way you have water and ice. A propane bbq is essential for cooking and heating water. Batteries, radio, matches-lighters, fem products, toilet paper etc. Just think of the stuff you take for granted.

Yeah, it wasn't so fun at the time. when i woke up, i thought it was the boogey man under my bed getting mad. (since us georgians NEVER feel an earthquake of any time). haha, now that i know it was a harmless earthquake, i wish it would happen again so i can feel the full effect. haha!

I felt the tremors here. I woke up thinking somebody was crawling into bed with me - started frantically groping around for my Sig (I live alone).
