Get ready for a real bad heartache....
I see where the officer says he can't understand the reaction from the public , "people who don't know me" as he puts it.
He feels hurt. How about those people on the ground, wondering if they are next? Do you think, "Whoops, we're sorry" really helps? In Denver, we've had so many questionable or wrong shootings the past few years it's become material for comics. The officers are always exonerated. Always. The Brotherhood. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Anyone in law enforcement who cannot ascertain a situation and deduce the degree of enforcement required to maintain control of their environment should be removed from the force. This video should be mandatory in each police academy in the country to provide an example of poor judgement. I'm usually not one to side with our "send it to the jury" society, but this is such a case that demands action and not tap dancing press releases from the goon squad responsible for shielding the officer's horrible lapse of judgement. Are police officers held to a higher standard? You bet. As they should. Someone who can quickly lose control of a situation involving a family and their pet dog is certainly going to be outmatched in a situation involving a crime scene in progress where innocents are among the criminals. This video was akin to a doctor amputating a hand to remove a wart.
Living in Tennessee now for over 10 years I have seen all kinds of cops. Thankfully Chattanooga has fair and just police(except for the one who insisted that there is a warrant for my arrest but that is another story). However driving through smaller towns,Cookville being one of them but not the only one, Cops tend to be a little power hungry. The smaller the city/town the more big headed the officer is likely to be. This doesn't hold for every police officer but from my experience that is the case. As an animal lover I am shocked that such a thing could happen so close to me(cookeville is about an hour from Nashville) I have not seen the video but if it does capture the death of the dog on film then I don't think I would like to see the poor animal's death. I just hope that all officers involved in this incident be either fired or put on long term probation. The man who fired the gun should have no right to be a police. Just by reading the articles on CNN and other news sites the other officers should also receive some kind of reprimand for brutality. I will just have to just wait and see...
