Google Talk

check it out. I haven't really gotten a chance to try it very much yet, but anything made by google is generally interesting.

how exactly is an IM client by google anything other than another IM client? Why would anyone care, regardless of who's name is on it?

how exactly is a mapping webpage by google anything other than another mapping webpage? Why would anyone care, regardless of who's name is on it?

how exactly is email by google anything other than another email? Why would anyone care, regardless of who's name is on it?

how exactly is a search engine by google anything other than another search engine? Why would anyone care, regardless of who's name is on it?

how exactly is a local computer search tool by google anything other than another windows search? Why would anyone care, regardless of who's name is on it?

Do I need to continue?

People care when Google's name is on it because they have a track record of releasing online software that is better than the competition. It's really quite simple.

As for Google Talk, It works well, but it seems to be lacking the "wow" factor that most of their applications have. I suspect down the road a version 2 of google talk will be released that will be pretty fancy. Until then I think i'll keep using trillian.

They should rename it YAIMC (Yet another IM Client)...but Google generally does make good software. I'm hoping it won't be loaded with crap features yahoo and aim. It's about simplicity and ease of use..
