Ok, I finally went and did it. I took the easy route of going to sleep. Not much swelling that I can see, but the drugs definitely helps.

I had all four of mine pulled years ago and also went the "knock my ass out" easy route. A little part of me regrets not staying awake though. Although I've heard that it sucks, it must be a pretty novel experience to stay awake while they're getting pulled.

Ouch. Hope it's not too painful when the drugs wear off Rich

All I remember is eating a ton of soup and bananas the first day. In my case, the drugs kicked my arse for several hours after I got home, and attempting to eat while in a borderline coherent state was hilarious.

Oh, and I do recall eating rice to be somewhat irritating for a while. Once in a while, I'd get a grain stuck in the hole and have to flush it out with water.

dont remind me, I never want to go through that again. Awake who in their right mind wants to be awake for that. Your jaw bone is feeling like its about to break and it can. Your face goes numb to the exact center of your face. The pain afterwards is unbearable.

My gf at the time had it done while she was awake and said she actually didn't feel much during the procedure. But afterward, she said the worst part was the soreness from keeping your facial muscles in the same position for so long.

Did you have yours done while awake?

i don't know what kind of drug they used, said it was a combination of valium and something to knock me out, but as soon as the needle went in, the doctor said "ok Richard, the drug will take about 20 seconds to take effect..." that's all I remember until I woke up, very nicely done.

jawbones aren't sore, not really. my father in law gave me some "Yunan Baiyao" - is this powder thingie that supposedly will end bleeding and help with pain, and it's working like a charm (plus the advil and the vicodin, of course )
