Got my wisdoms pulled today
When I had mine out I just ate things that didn't need to be chewed.... applesauce, mashed potatoes, soup.
Just make sure you do *NOT* drink anything from a straw. That is a proven way to get "dry sockets". I can't explain what it is, but its the sucking motions from drinking through a straw that help you get them and they are supposed to be really painful.

I had two taken out first then the next two. I was awake the whole time and what made it really worth not going to sleep was the fact that this cute nurse was holding my hand BOTH times!!! Wooohoooo!!!
I have all four pulled and one of them were impacted. Had me on general, which was nice. Got the WAWAs. Had to call my brother afterwards to come pick me up and talk about trying to talk on the phone. That shit was hilarious. Went to get ice cream afterwards only to have it dribble down my chin.
The only thing that sucked is that I had an interview the day after. Talk about fun.

I'm not looking forward to when I eventually have to get mine out. I'm going the "knock my ass out" route for sure.
No way I'd be able to stay awake with all that drama going on in my mouth.

I had all 4 out in 1999. They were all impacted. Not fun. I got put out cold. About an hour after I got home, the novicaine (sp?) started to wear off and it felt like someone had hit be in the face with a baseball bat a few times. Talk about a pounding ache. They gave me Percaset (sp?), which is a strong pain reliever, but I took Advil instead. The first day was the worst, full of feeling like I was going to puke and pain. After that, I recovered pretty quickly. My face was quite swollen and black and blue. I looked like a chipmunk.
You guys are all talking these horror stories....I had mine taken out while awake. It wasn't bad at all. Just a little uneasy because you can hear your teeth coming out of the jaw. I had about 6-8 shot of novacaine and was good to go. The dentist also gave me some laughing gas prior to the op.
When I got home, I took some codeine and really didn't feel that bad. I got horrible constipation from the codeine though
. It really isn't that bad. If your wisdoms are impacted, well then that's a whole diff story. That stuff SUCKS.

i've had eight teeth pulled including my four wisdom teeth (one impacted). i was awake for all of them actually.
the worst part was that they have to sometimes extract the tooth in parts, so they break out this mini electric saw. the smell of burning enamel/tooth was by far the worst part.

i don't know what kind of drug they used, said it was a combination of valium and something to knock me out, but as soon as the needle went in, the doctor said "ok Richard, the drug will take about 20 seconds to take effect..." that's all I remember until I woke up, very nicely done.
jawbones aren't sore, not really. my father in law gave me some "Yunan Baiyao" - is this powder thingie that supposedly will end bleeding and help with pain, and it's working like a charm (plus the advil and the vicodin, of course
)
