Got screwed by a friend.
I will try to make the story short. skip to summary if you don't feel like reading.
I was looking to buy a car. A friend knew and tried to sell me his. Let's call him Mr A. He is my best friend's brother in law who is also a mechanic. We also know each other for 6 yrs.
He told me that he rebuilt the engine. Everything works. Also told me not to worry about anything. I went test driving. It ran well. Done some local driving, also highway driving. Everything seemed to be fine. I asked if there is any problem about this car, especially overheating problem. He told me not to worry about anything! So I bought the car. It ran fine for a month.
One month later, the car overheats occasionally. Sometimes, the coolant level is low. I bleed the air out. fill coolant. It would run fine for a week or two. then it overheats again. Then there is air in the cooling system again. So I called Mr A. He said he never saw that problem. Told me to take it to his shop. I drove to his shop. He didn't examine the car. Instead, his boss did. And told me probably the HG is shot. About 1k to fix it!
I left the shop with a lot of questions. Called another friend for second opinion. He is also a mechanic. Let's call him Mr B. In fact, he's another good friend of mine. He also knows Mr A. I described my problem to him. He gave me some advise and told me to just let it run for another week or two and see what happens. Keep in mind I didn't tell him where I bought my car from. He did not know anything about this car except the model and year.
Along with the advise he gave me. He also told me someone he knew had the same car with the same problem and couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. His friend also rebuilt the engine but the problem was still there. That sound really familiar. You guessed it. His friend is actually Mr A. According to Mr B. Mr A had rebuilt the engine and the overheating problem was still happening occasionally.
So, Mr A lied to me right from the beginning. Telling me that the car was fine, never overheat and all that. But he actually sold me a car with overheat problem. I just couldn't believe someone I know for years could screw me up like this.
I found out all of these today. I've never have questions about Mr A. I believed used car has its problem and it happens. I didn't even blame him when this happened. But I am upset and mad now.
I am trying to look at this on the bright side. What I paid for the car was well worth it, because I got to see the true side of a person. Who can we can still trust these days?!
thanks for reading this long post.
- Mr A sold me a car (Mr A is my best friend's brother in law and I know him for 6 yrs) Mr A told me the car was problem free. I don't have to worry about anything.
- a month later, car started to overheat.
- Mr A said never had overheating problem. Would fix it. But i have to pay.
- ask for 2nd opinion from Mr B. Another best friend who is also a mechanic. Mr B did not know where i bought my car from. I only gave him the year and model. Mr B gave me advise and told me a story about his friends car (same year model) also had the similar problem and couldn't figure out why. Mr B's friend was Mr A. that car was actually the car Mr A sold me.
- I found out Mr A lied to me right from the beginning. Mr A got me to buy a piece of shit.
- I am disappointed about my friend Mr A. And don't know who to trust anymore.
What would you guys do if you were me?

I would try not to do business with friends much because there's a lot more on the line than just the item being bought/sold. Sorry to hear that happened to you, and good luck getting it fixed. BTW, what car was it?
it was an Old 240sx. 1993 auto.
I also fixed the gramma. I was trying to type everything out quickly. But made a lot of errors. Thanks for reading it again.
I always believe in goods. I just hope what has happened was just isolated case.

That really sucks. I'd end my friendship with Mr. A. What an A!

Anyway, really, I'd end the friendship now because if he is lying about the car in order to sell it to you, what else could he lie to you about in order to get something out of you?
That sucks man! I am sorry to hear about your car. Well, we turn to friends and known acquaintances because we rely on the fact that they will never rip us off considering we know them well. Too bad these things happen!
