It doesn't feel right to screw someone else over. If I am going to sell it. I will tell the potential buyer the problem. I just hope someone that's looking to do an engine swap to buy this car. So that the overheat problem is out of the picture.
When it comes to friends, try not to do money related transaction....just like someone mentioned above. You have that much more to lose if something happens. Heck, even roommates that are good friends will have issues when paying the rent money.
Take my guideline anyway you like.
1.) Keep money separate
2.) If you are gonna give them goods, give it to them for free or close to free, so there are no issues/complaint if the goods turns out not so good.
3.) And don't expect anything back later for your generosity.
Now that you found out not his true side, but his other side.....you obviously have to reconsider the relationship, or if he is taking you as much of a friend as you are. I would definitely try to let him know directly or indirectly of what you know, and see if he will try to make up for it. This can be easily be done through Mr. B if you want the indirect method. If Mr.A doesn't do anything, well....you got your answer to how much he see this relationship as.
Face it, when it comes to money, everybody is for themselves. Don't even mention friends. Even between family, they get ripped up if good amount of money comes into the picture. We see it all the time with rich family.

That's not a friend, that's just somebody you know. A real friend doesn't do that kind of thing.
d.h,
I totally agree with you. I personally have never done any harm to a friend, and will never do. Because this is how I am. so I always trust my friends.
This is a good lesson to me.
I thought about to confront Mr A. Just don't know how. Plus, he's my best friend's brother in law. It will get a little bit complicated I suppose. My best friend doesn't know anything about this.
Money is evil eh?

go back and punch him in the face...i've had too many friends who i thought i trusted #### me over, so now i just handle it with a punch in the face which usually puts them in there place..if that doesnt work then punch him again, works every single time.
