Stating my opinion about a certain age group isn't stereotyping. Because people are older and drive less aggressively than I do, and have less of a need to drive fast does not stereotype anyone. The older I get, the more responsible I will get, and going from 18 to 23, I have become way more responsible than I used to be, so when I hit 30 I suspect my craziness will be gone... sigh... I don't make up a name for the mature drivers and go, "look, thats a senior-boy," or something. Even then, I think that would be less abrasive than "rice-boy" but hey, if people are sooo mature and responsible, then why the need to associate "rice" with a car? That word has nothing to do with the way a car looks, so how can it be called a "rice" car except that the driver of that car is usually asian, and asians eat a lot of rice? I mean, I'm not saying that people use this word in this way, but can't you see where I would find it a little insensetive to a certain segment of the population? Tell me, what in the world does "rice" have to do with a car? But oh well, its probably harder to realize something that may be offensive if you don't belong to the paricular group that would get offended.

I just brought up an argument, and explained my side, and I think I have some validity. If some of you may not see the same way I do, I respect your opinion even if it does not coincide with mine. Theres nothing I can do if people want to call cars "rice" but after my thoughts have been expressed, maybe it would change people's views about the way the word is used.

Huyto, the cars are called rice because they look a certain way, not because of the nationality of the driver! You still haven't comprehended that...I've seen caucasians "rice" up Civics, and it's still called rice. It's because of the origin of the cars, not because of the people...sheesh I'm chinese and yet I don't find it offensive in the least bit. Like I posted earlier, if you don't like it, don't read it...some people may find your road racing adventures offensive, and you say the same thing...so just adhere to your own words. That said, I'm moving this to the proper forum.

Jay, I get what your saying about the cars looking "ricey" but why is there a need to use the word rice. What does rice have to do with a car? If someone can give me a valid reason how the word "rice" can be used to describe a car I'll except it. We can say ugly, funky, lame, wack anything, but how come the word rice?

You really don't see the fatal (and incredibly obvious) flaw in your reasoning here?

So your saying because I think older drivers are more responsible drivers that I'm stereotyping them? Stereotyping is categorizing a group of people or a class of people in a negative light, or manner that is demeaning in tone. How is being a mature driver demeaning or bad in any way? So you would be offended if I thought you were a responsible driver? C'mon man, in ten, twenty years I'm pretty sure I won't be driving the way I do now and I admit it, doesn't mean its bad or anything.

Alright, alright, if using "rice" to describe a car isn't offensive, fine. Sheez, if you guys wanna accept people calling your cars that, or using that to describe cars its cool man. I just don't see how rice has anything to do with cars, and because a 16-17 year kid explains the meaning, its ok? Fine, fine, I'm wrong, I'm just a rice eating, fob, nip dude with a stook, which happens to be made by those rice-rocket making rice-boys at tochigi. I don't know about anyone else, but to me, rice has nothing to do with describing a car. I surrender.

Just look at it this way...if most other Asians don't take offense but you still do, you're probably in the wrong.
