Great timing! Going to Paris on Friday...
We had a nice time in Paris for a week (oct 01), except most of the attraction workers were striking. Went to Notre Dame, couldn't go up the bell towers; went to Arc de Triumph, couldn't go to the top; the Palace of Versailles was closed; Got to go to the Louvre, but there were no guides. Kind of sucked, but really, we didn't have any problems with anti-american stuff. We did have one reaaaly rude woman in a wine shop tho. Conversation was something like:
"I'd like a bottle of Bourdoux."
"No English!"
"Bourdoux!"
"NO ENGLISH!"
To my wife: "Maybe I'm mis-pronouncing it, or maybe she thinks I'm a Brit."
Anyway, were are you staying? We stayed at the Paris Hilton, right next to the Eiffle Tower. Highly recommended, especially if you get the concierge level. Very nice.
When you leave, go to the airport Very early. EVERY bag gets hand-searched at check-in for international flights.
And please don't flame my spelling, I speak and write ZERO French; too lazy to look things up.

I'm not sure I see the point here.

Chirac has made a choice. He could stand with a murderous dictator that he says he doesn't trust and ensure his arms for oil contracts or he could stand with a nation that he trusts and a nation that helped liberate his nation twice in the last 100 years but risk his business contracts. He chose the former. For shame.

Yeah, tough times for Americans in france right now, for example I've got 2 young American girls doing unpaid internship at my office right now, and everyday I put a very smelly camembert cheese in their handbags, light my cigarette with a burning American flag, cowardly murmur 'Bush is an idiot, Bush is an idiot' in their back, and when they confront me and try to have a conversation about the war, I either change the subject or leave the room.

DJ Qube -- with emotions running as high as they are on both sides, it's sure to be an interesting trip.
I have heard that some French merchants have put "No Americans" signs in their windows. Considering that the Americans who are visiting are probably not the enemy, this makes about as much sense as the US House of Representatives renaming French Toast/Freedom Toast and French Fries/Freedom Fries (despite the fact that French toast is named after the American who invented it; French fries originated in Belgium).
Ignorance is everywhere...always has been, always will be. Fortunately, there are good people everywhere as well. Here's hoping you experience more of the latter on your trip.
Be sure to let us know what you experience when you get back.
