I might this summer. Where were all the scenic stopping points? Besides the Monterey/Big Sur area.
When I did it I drove the whole thing in one shot, starting in Pacifica. Big Sur is really spectacular. The second pic I took was from Pigeon Point lighthouse, about 2 hours south of SF. It was really worth it and we spent about 30 minutes here just walking around taking pics. I didn't do Hearst Castle or any of the tourist stops, it was more about the drive itself. In retorspect, I really enjoyed driving through the farmland areas past Pismo Beach (strawberry, artichoke fields). It was a side of California I've never seen before. There are pull-off spots all along the road most of the way and almost all are worth stopping to take pics at. It's just an awe-inspiring road in general, especially in a convertible. I want to do it in an S2000 when I get another one.

I've done PCH from LA to San Diego as well, which is a bit of a different animal, but still very worth while.

Columbus,OH to San Diego,CA-Best and Worst road trip of my life...Me and my buddy drove that in his Cherokee...took us about 4 days as we made a quite few scenic stops, slept in the Jeep,Only ate at dumpy looking restaurants that nobody's ever heard of,No drama like with all the other road trips that we took with GF's,Oh yea and Month of June+Dessert driving=Sucks.

Made a Few trips down to Orlando and up to Windsor a few times.
I can imagine the desert driving is rough in June. I did it in early May when it was just starting to get hot. Beautiful scenery though.

I will be taking a road trip through europe this July.

Brussels->Amsterdam->Stuttgart->Berne->Cannes->Barcelona->Valencia->Malaga->Marbella->Seville->Lisbon

Should be fun
That sounds awesome. I have a friend living in Amsterdam who loves it so far. Hit up some of those mountain roads if you can.

Around 11 hours including numerous stops along the alcoves to take pictures (about 10 minutes each for maybe 8 stops or so). In retrospect, we should have taken 101 into LA where it branched off from 1, as we drove through farmland for a good hour and a half before finding a road that connected. I would recommend to anyone that they take this trip at least once.

either go up north from LA or go down south from SF.

my recommendation would be (from LA):

- get on PCH at the end of 10 freeway at Santa Monica, go north.
- stop by Pepperdine, my alma mater
- stop by Zuma Beach (right after you pass Kanan Road), check out the beach, turn around just a bit.
- go north on Kanan, enjoy the winding road bit, jump on 101N at Agoura Hills
- connect back to HWY 1 at San Luis Obispo, go towards Hearst Castle
- do the coast drive
- connect to 17N at santa cruz - enjoy the winding road, connect back to the 101.

or you can keep going on HWY1 to your heart's desire, but by this point i've just about had enough beach. a stop over monterey and do the aquarium is a good idea as well.

i used to the above trip 2 ~ 3 times a year growing up in LA

Awesome! I applied to Pepperdine Law and part of my trip a few years ago was visiting the campus (I didn't get in ). In addition, if anyone does the PCH through Malibu, stop by Duke's for lunch.

Las Vegas - Indianapolis ~2,000 miles.

27 1/2 hours.

Flew out to Vegas to pick up a MINT 97 Integra Type R and drove it straight back the same day. I thought I was going to die at the time, but looking back now it was the best trip I've taken.
