Greatest Road Trips
NE Texas to Rockford, Illinois. 900 miles on the dot from my driveway to the hotel, 25 hours in the S with a passenger and it starts to get a little cramped. I went up there for the national Neon meet. I ended up being a write in for 'Best Import' at the "Neon" car show, hehehe. Raced the S at Byron Dragway. The real enjoyment came from spending 4 days in Chicago on the way back. I absolutely loved walking around downtown and not driving at all for a couple days. Also toured Anheuser-Busch in St.Louis and drove through New Orleans on the way back. Here are a few pics.

Indianapolis --> Kansas --> (Southern) Colorado --> The Grand Canyon --> Phoenix --> San Diego --> LA --> San Francisco --> Salt Lake City --> Jackson Hole, Wyoming --> Yellowstone --> Montana --> South Dakota (Bad Lands) --> Mount Rushmore --> Iowa --> Chicago --> Indianapolis
That was years ago... and I doubt I'll get a chance to do that again in my life. It was a good experience though.

Growing up my dad was in the Army, so we moved about every 2-4 years, and we always drove. 3 of the best, but looooong road trips we made were from:
#1: Anchorage, AK to Fayetteville, NC
#2: Fayetteville, NC to Fairbanks, AK
#3: Fairbanks, AK to Philadelphia, PA
We always made alot of stops along the way to do touristy stuff, and stayed with people we knew from previous places we lived. Each trip took us about 3-4 weeks, and seeing a lot of the US was awesome.

Well my brother and I had the chance to drive from Los Angeles to San Francisco last winter. We took PCH all the way up and frankly it was the coolest, scariest, weirdest, trip ever! It all started great in LA checking out the coastline and all the people stopping to admire the view. Saw some cool cars on the way. Then it got dark and rainy, and I thought we were going to fall into the ocean at several times during the trip. The fear of mudslides was somewhat overwhelming, thank god we had a few J's rolled of Venice Beach's finest medical
Its just that the road got really windy and you couldn't really see past a few feet laterally from the car, but we knew the ocean was RIGHT THERE. Freaky!
At one point we stopped at a restaurant in Big Sur. It was pretty late at night, and we felt like complete foreigners in this kinda fancy, homely little restaurant. Food was great. The trip took us about 11-12 hours.

Ah and I also drove to University of Kentucky to visit my friend last year. Left Philadelphia and made it all the way in about 9 or so hours, by myself. West Virginia has got some crazy hills. On my way back to Philly I stopped in some WV town, population about 1000, so I could pick up a dutchie from a BP station. Rolled it in the station lot and smoked it through WV, blasting Allman!!
When I got out of the Army in 1990: Seattle > Portland > San Fran > LA > Phoenix > Dallas > New Orleans > Atlanta > Charlotte > Boston > Pittsburg > Indy > St. Louis > Denver > Billings > Spokane > Seattle
Trips was with 4 buddies that all got out of the Army around the same time - took about 4 weeks. All on motorcycles and slept in tents at various camp grounds.
In 2007 I drove from Phoenix to Wake the Dragon and back. Total time was 8 days with 3 of them at the Dragon.

My wife (gf at the time) took 2+ weeks on Continental Europe in the early 90's. I wish I could remember every place we went but highlights included . . .
Brugges, Belgium
Brussels, Belgium
Brienz, Switzerland
Innsbrook, Austria
Lake Garda, Italy
Venice, Italy
Paris, France
Reims, France
Strasbourg, France
???, Germany
We only had one reservation, a hotel in Venice for two nights. Other than that, we opened the map and drove. If I had to choose a place to go back to, it would be Switzerland and Austria. Beautiful country-side, good food and great people. Germany would follow closely.
