Wrong. I could post up links to videos the terrorist have made themselfs showing it is about religious fanaticism. This last set of videos out showing there starting to use young children. The use of a child! While some of the targets are military a lot are innocent people.
The karan specifically states killing is forbidden, among other things. Its terrorists that twist these "laws" to their own liking. Last I checked, ALL religions have been doing this; its nothing new unfortunatly.
However, as of right now, its these terrorists that are being the most destructive with it.
I feel safer here in the UAE than when I used to live near London UK.
I live in Abu Dhabi, which is about to take off the same way. Dubai is great for a couple of days, but wouldn't live there. Abu Dhabi is much more chilled and worth a visit.
As for all the strange rules and stuff, they don't really effect the way an expat wants to live, unless you get in trouble. The only upsetting thing is that nationals tend to be able to avoid some of the rules set for everyone else - but its their country so meh.

As already stated, history and current world events tell something else. When the news hits about a group as often as not there is a cleric leader->While you may say that is not islam, they are the ones people look to as leaders of the faith.
If you learn everything you need to know from television, and what the news media outlets CHOOSE to show us then you must believe that Catholicism is about molesting boys, that only a handful of people get murdered in major cities every year and that Iraq really is like an Indiana market in summer time.

Now I'm no expert in religion [I'm not religious in the slightest], but I do take the time to learn about other people's cultures and beliefs rather than take one fact/group of people and immediately apply it to an entire race of people.
I worked there for a summer as a legal consult for a company and for all the money and rich dudes-things to see in Dubai I would never live there (never say never but still) compared to a place like Montreal.
Yes there's money but almost everyone there is passing by Dubai for a few years to make a quick buck or so...
There isn't really any cultural-historical things to do-see in the city itself.
It reminds me of a more business oriented Las Vegas...
Dubai looks cool and all, but I couldn't wait to get back home...
Their laws are evolving but it's still ridiculous compared to North America.
If you are used to having rights-liberty associated with the West than Dubai is not for you.
Oh and from May until September the heat is intolerable; it's sooooooo hot and humid everyone wants to freaking leave....You can't do anything outside without getting all sticky and feeling like shit, so you end up going from your air cond. car to a hotel room, etc...

Another group with radicalists, The Mormons. Very fanatical about there faith and prophet. World wide religion. Yet when some one makes fun of there religion or prophet you never hear of them picking up a gun, bomb, or a riots in the streets.
Religion has always been a point of discussion, argument and unforunately, war. To say Islam is "about" killing people is just plain ignorant. As Spec_Ops stated, "he karan specifically states killing is forbidden, among other things." Now I'm no expert in religion [I'm not religious in the slightest], but I do take the time to learn about other people's cultures and beliefs rather than take one fact/group of people and immediately apply it to an entire race of people.

Religion is not always a point for war, but to often it is. If you want to talk about Islam and the history of deaths about, and around the faith, then take the time to read a few history books. There is a monastary that has a hand print and written protection from mohmmad. Brings up some questions,....why if killing and much more is forbidden would he have to go out of his way to protect this place? (which by the way has some of the oldest books in the world, they now have a photocopy set up putting them on the internet for all to read) There is much more in the history then I care to type up here.

Whether people want to admit the truth or not, ALL religions have a dark side to them as there will always be crazy ****ing radicalists out there. Nothing new...
