I have an upgraded T68 with T68i software. I like the phone, except when I do text messaging in Chinese, the response lags pretty bad.

Mav, are you with T-Mobile? I have the 39.99 plan with 600 whenever minutes, free weekends, but I didnt know they had free week nights?

Hello Moto.... Just an update. After much hesitance and deliberation, I bought the Motorola T720 GSM phone a couple days ago. Holy crap, what an Awsome phone. This thing is just amazing. So far, the coverage in South Florida has been better than my ATT Digital service, we'll see how it goes when I travel. The coverage area is nearly double from when I checked about 3 months ago. Most Urban areas have coverage, which should be fine for me.

Everything is color/icon based, I have an S2000 backgroud screen, but not using the screen saver. I'm a bit disappointed that there is no PC connection package yet. Among other things, I will be able to link to my outlook mail and calanders, and use a USB cable that will let me use the phone as a modem. Already able to receive, send e-mail and use the mini-browser, and use voice activated calling. Amazing that the voice commands work so well. It hasn't made a mistake yet.

The games are neat, I have MotoGP and Tetris, full color, but not easy to play with the little buttons. I'll probably just download Blackjack from hellomoto.com and play that.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of GSM vs TDMA? It seems the coverage is limited now but if I read correctly GSM is the future of cell phones.

Yes, I'm with AT&T. They have great coverage in my home area, and they seem to have coverage in most of the bigger urban areas. It'll probably be another year before their GSM network is really built up.

s2ko: GSM is just a different technology, see SteveC's post above. The SIM card is one of the new things. When you program your phone, you can save things to the phone or Card, and copy between them. GSM is also the technology that most of the rest of the world uses (Europe, asia, etc...), so my phone should work overseas, but I think you have to pay extra for international calling plans. Not sure, since it won't affect me.

At any rate, the clarity is 100 times better than my Nokia 6160. It's like being on a home phone. I'll have to see if that holds when I am traveling. GSM also allows for data access, tho for all I know, TDMA also does. I can do faxing, e-mail, web browsing, etc, with this phone.

gsm works great for me. haven't seen too many dead spots yet. im using the 8390 though. im not a big fan of the motorola interface (thats why i got rid of my v60). service plans aren't so hot though. they'll get better as AT&T get more ppl into GSM.

GSM coverage sucks in many parts of Cal. I've had problems with Cingular and T-Mobile. My company just bought several AT&T GSM phones and many are complaining about the service coverage.
