Moral of the story...do your job when you're at work. Choose to do things that are against company policy and be willing to accept the punishment.
I won't be a hypocrite and say I have never surfed "unauthorized" sites from work or written e-mails that violated company policy, but if I ever got busted for it I'd take my knocks and move on.
And, yes, I've been written up for such things in the past, so I speak from experience...

Actually, from the tone of the guys posts he seemed to be taking it like a man. He was not complaining about being fired for the wrong reasons, just stating that he had been fired. Almost seems like a polite warning to others.
That was pretty much the impression I got from reading the thread. I was referring mostly to the idea that the employer might be acting unfairly.
As long as the rules are clearly stated then it's our problem if we break them...
