Handgun in a car, what is the consequence?
while the internet has a vast amount of info... your local pd is still going to be the most trustworthy answer to this question..
and just a suggestion... until you find out either way (whether its allowed or not) I'd suggest keeping it out of your car. I don't imagine an officer would let you off with just a "I didn't know" type response

Luckily, you got some good info.
I think it varies by state. Here in NC, it has to be either in plain sight, or 2 steps away from bein in your hand. What I mean by that is if it is unloded and locke in your glove box, Step one: remove keys from the ignition and unlock the glove box. Step 2: Load magazine into gun and chamber a round. Im fairly certain that chambering a round is not counted as a step, so just being in an unlocked glove box and unchambered uold not count as 2 steps. That being said, I keep mine uder the driver seat of my S (Glock .40, model 23) and when I get pulled i jsut reach under the seat and lay it either on the dash or the passenger seat and the frst thig out of my mouth to the officer is that I have a handgun in the car (hnds on the wheel). I dont have concealed/carry
If im wrong, by all means, someone please correct me

I believe in most states even with a permit you are required to tell the officer and allow them to secure the gun ASASP.

Have you ever been pulled over and actually done that?

Why not just call the sheriff and ask what the laws are in your jurisdiction. Wikipedia is about as trustworthy of a source for information as a dictionary for the English language made in China.

I'm in wisconsin, when I transported my 30/30 for hunting). What crimes am I commiting?
-if at all possible transport with in the laws because if you get a minor situation they may use the illegal firearm situation as more bad. especially if your exposure is at a semi frequent rate.
-call a reputable dealer(s) in your area (may require a personal visit) then call your local cop shop's business office.
-in my state the laws are not uniform and vary even inside a county/ city/ town. at least i would consider home/ destination and the rout taken between. best situation maybe not to keep it under the seat? whatever
a lot of the local gun shows I go to always sell concealed carry law books.
They only cost a few bucks and list the laws for all 50 states, it may not always be perfectly up to date but at least you have something you can refer to (and possibly blame) in a pinch.
