guy i knew in college got in some very serious trouble for driving thru michigan with his gun. ammo was separate and everything. i don't recall the exact situation down to the T, so don't quote me, but just keep in mind laws vary by state - be very careful with this one and educate yourself.
it doesn't matter what the state law is, there is a federal allowing transport of any weapon through any state. the ammo and the gun have to be separated and locked in different boxes to be legal.

what gun would fit in the lock glove box of the S? I am getting my CCW. I am an ex Marine Military Police (5811) I have plenty of training with a pistol. I want to have someone build me a special holder for it in the S. But im not sure what will fit.
the hidden compartment is pretty large and will accommodate most pistols...

HonCBRf2, do you know where I can find that law in writing? I'd like to keep that for my reference. I thought it depended on the state you were going through...

That depends on the individual State. I can carry my weapon concealed on my person in my car in CT, but if I cross the border into MA, I'm breaking the law.

You have to check the idividual states laws pertaining to this. Here's a site for you... http://www.handgunlaw.us/ I'm in Ga and with my GFL I can carry in Fl, Al, Tenn, but not SC. If you are planning on traveling from one state to another the burden is put on you to find out the laws pertaining to this.

Yes.
For folks...state law does NOT preempt federal law. Civic 101. Cross state lines, you are violating the federal law with a loaded gun.

And, a permit in a given jurisdiction puts the owner at significant risk if he/she commits ANY crimes. Not only will something that has nothing to do with the gun typically automatically revoke your permit, but if you do something stupid and have ready access to a loaded gun- you can be prosecuted for a second felony and increased minimum for crime with a gun.
