Yea, the ranger sxt line is basically the same minus the cool black coating. It stands for Same eXact Thing. I think the ammo was voluntarily pulled by winchester.. I don't remember the controversy surrounding the ammo, but I do remember it was all BS.

SXT's are some of my current fav's. Seems to have just the perfect punch in 38 Spl +p in my 4" 686+ -- tightest groupings (for me), fast recovery (unlike full-load 357 Mag), and moderate flash. WAY too expensive for range fun though!

You've been watching too many movies. Absolute J-U-N-K
i dont see how its junk? the .44 had a pretty hard recoil on it, its a well made gun.
maybe a lil too big/bulky for home defence.

*shrugs* its on the list of toys im saving for.

Too difficult to punch off successive rounds on target because recovery time is too long.. that alone dismisses it in my book.

i suggest just buying a new gun from a respectable shop (vs gunshow or used). do they have a Sportsman's Warehouse in Oklahoma City? i've had very good experiences with them on two handgun purchases.

if you want a handgun for target shooting AND putting in your car (your original post said putting in the car, now you say target shooting) - i would say a nice .45 ACP 1911, kimber or springfield. if you want a polymer, go glock or HK, but nowadays all the companies are making them. the big differences are caliber, if it's striker or hammer fired, and safety features.

btw, what kind of budget are you on?
Well, primary purpose is for the travels. But I see myself shooting it for "fun" a lot.

I dont want to spend more than 400 dollars.

$400 = used higher quality gun over new lower quality gun IMHO

maybe a lucky find at a pawn shop but you have to know what you are looking at.

yeah $400 can get you a decent used gun... but that's like buying a used car... who knows what it's been through???
