happiness=drug addiction
Illegal drugs aren't illegal because of the potential harm they cause the body directly; they are illegal because of the lengths that people will go to get them, use them, and sell them. For example, if they sold crack cocaine at 7-11, 7-11 would get robbed WAY more than they do already. Addiction makes people do things they would not otherwise do in order to get what they would not otherwise be able to function without. Making "external" drugs illegal is just the government's way of trying to limit the amount of people buying/using the drugs, and the direct correlation between this number of people, and the crimes they commit in order to afford their habits (or that their dealer are committing in order to supply them with their product).
Now, beg your pardon as I crush up 60mg of vicodin and add it to my afternoon coffee, as there are three whole excruciating hours left in this work day.

Did they teach spelling and/or grammar at this top flight university?

what is this a spelling bee? why does it matter how i spell if u can still understand me.
i am mixed on whether its should be completely legal. however, i do think currently the penalties are rediculous. jails and prisons are overcrowded, and one thing they can do to alleviate the problem is to get rid of victimless crimes.
wheres the crime if there is no victim? wtf...

people would not have to commit crimes if it were legal, saying they would rob is a big assumption.
btw you do know in each vicodin tablet there is only 5-10mg of active opiate, the rest is asprin/aceitametophen or something. if you were taking 60mg of pure active opiate you would probably die. doesnt it taste gross in your coffee? just throw some whisky in there for some kick.
60 mg of Hydrocodone might kill you, but 6 grams of tylenol (if you use the regular Vicodin 500mg/tab with 5 mg of hydrocodone) may put you in fulminant liver failure and kill you too.
"if they sold crack at 7-11 i think people would just go in and buy it. drugs are very very very cheap to produce. its the government laws that make them illegal that drives the price up."
You're forgetting the fact that not all drug addicts have jobs, and when a crack head runs out of money, it doesn't necessarily mean that his longing for crack has also dissipated. This is the main problem with legalization (among others); just because it's legal, does not mean that everyone who wants/needs it is going to be able to pay for it. If they cannot pay for it, and are going through heroin or crack withdrawals, they are likely to commit a desperate crime in order to get what they need. The government's theory is that if you limit the supply, you limit the number of people who will begin taking it to begin with, thus reducing associated crime.

welll... dosnt the english gov give out free heroine to smack addicts?
if they crack heads rob the 7-11 they will go to jail for robbing the 7-11. and the crack heads that are law abiding wont go to jail. i dont see the problem. too many assumptions. there needs to be a pilot to see exactly the implications of having no more victimless crimes.

I guess we know the MJ users on the site now.
I have no problem with someone stating that marijuana has some benefits - heck, I pointed out one use myself. It's the justification and obfuscation about how it's not AS bad that makes me laugh (and shake my head).
The idea that being high or in a state of semi-consciousness is "good" is ludicrous. That's how people get hurt or, more importantly, hurt others. I'm not just picking on marijuana, either - same goes for alcohol.
A bit isn't going to kill, usually, but most people would be better off not taking it at all.
