Has my friend gone crazy? Head doctors...look inside
We'll call him Bob.
I used to hang out with Bob last summer and towards the end of last year and my group of friends and I kinda drifted away due to various reasons. He still had his own group of friends and I didn't really hear anything from him for awhile until various stories started to surface through the mouths of my friends. The stories were about Bob and how he would suddenly "trip" out and become very paranoid. During one instance, Bob would be hanging out in my other friends car and suddenly Bob would become extremely angry and accuse others around him of talking "sh!t" and would soon start to scare the other friends around him. Bob's behavior was not normal, according to those who recapped the incident. I did not believe this to be much of a concern because I thought it was all exaggeration and maybe Bob had legitimate reasons to accuse others of slander.
Fast forward to about a month ago and my first encounter with Strange Bob.
There was a get together where Bob randomnly showed up. First thing that went through my head was "Oh, it's Bob. Nice to see him after all these months." First thing that came out of Bob's lips was "The government is after me." I'm thinking, at this point in time, maybe the IRS? Didn't pay his taxes? Then Bob said "George W. Bush and Jay Leno are all talking sh!t about me on national television." That's when I realized, I didn't know if Bob was serious or not. But the expression on Bob's face was enough to determine that he wasn't screwing around. He then proceeded to tell us how everyone on national television is out to get him and how the government wants him dead or what not. At this point, I'm telling myself, Bob is sick. But with what?
After this incident where I, myself, got the chance to experience what everyone was talking about, I thought about it and tried to figure out what was going on. I'm pretty sure Bob is not smoking hard drugs. But what else could it be? Is there a medical ailment that forces those that are sick to lash out at people and become delirious, as if he/she was smoking crack?
And frequently, when Bob comes to hang out, he would always sneer at everyone, get angry at people he has never met before, always saying "Why you gotta talk sh!t about my mother?" At a park, when we were all hanging out, Bob would walk around and start yelling profanity at families across the park shouting "Why are you forcing me to do this? Is this what you want?"
My question is, is there a medical condition that deteriorates some part of the brain to force someone to act like a madman? My friends and I are getting fed up with this and do not know what to do. Everytime someone confronts him about it, Bob always lashes out, trips out and becomes very angry, almost to the point where both sides are about to beat each other to death. What is going on?
Thanks,
Bryan

Wow...are you serious? There are definitely disorders that could cause that sort of thing, but if it's really that serious, then I don't think it's something that us folks on an Internet car board could really help diagnose. It could be paranoid schizophrenia, delusional disorder, or a myriad of other stuff. If things are as you say, then definitely try to get him to see a mental health professional. Hope things work out man...
Edit:
Btw, I wouldn't suspect drugs. Occasional drug use or short term drug use rarely causes anyone to act that wacky.

Judging from your writeup and what I learned at school. It sounds like he is showing symptoms of schizophrenia. He's having delusions of persecution and hallucinations. Take him to a doctor for a prognosis ASAP.
You should also watch out for his speech. Is he frequently derailing and incoherent? Did his work and personal relationships suffer from this??

Bryan, not only is it clear that your friend "Bob" is having some serious problems, it is also entirely clear that "Bob" is a figment of your imagination!!
"your friend Bob" is an aspect of you that is clearly manifesting itself through a classic Jeckyl-Hyde syndrome. and your expressing concerns now about the government being after you are beside the point-- you've known this for years!
don't fret about Jay Leno's jokes Bryan. you should hear the stuff he tells us when he's not on the air!

Severe Bipolar disorder. Get your friend help ASAP. If you are a true friend you will do this. People with this condition have a high suicide rate if it goes untreated. He needs a medical professional to regulate his brain chemistry ASAP.
I will send you a PM.

Sounds more like Schizophrenia. It is a very common disorder affecting about 1% of the population worldwide. Your friend needs help, but good luck trying to get him to the ER. There is no indication of mood instability or cyling or pressured speech that would point to BP Dx although it is certainly possible. There are a host of possibilities including drug abuse, medical condition etc that need to examined as well. He needs professional help.

Aye sounds like schizophrenia (glad someone else knows how to spell it
) or bipolar. At work a few years ago we hired a bipolar salesmen (found out on the tail of it) and he was getting REALLY mad over nothing and accusing people of saying things when no one had spoke. Professional help is needed no doubt.
Quick side note - Go rent/buy A beatifull mind. Don't want to say anymore other then it pertains to this subject and is a VERY VERY excellent movie.
