Have you ever picked up a hitchhiker?

It is a sad fact that you never know who/what you are going to pick up these days -- thus the chambered glock 23 under my left leg...

I've picked up a couple of hitchhikers in the past, but never again. Just too dangerous! You don't know which ones are psychotic killers.
But except for helpless old Asian ladies.
Once upon a time, I was at an Asian store and an old Asian lady and her grand daughter needed a ride home (for some reason which I've forgotten), I gave them a ride. I'd give rides to old, helpless Asian ladies or men because they are not psychotic killers.

You know, I see people on the side of the road all the time, mostly people stranded because their car has broken down or something and I would love to stop and see if I can help, but it's just too freaky. All those horrible people have ruined it for all the good people out there. You never know if that's just a ploy to get people to pull over and then abduct them! I don't need to be taking that chance!

I did "accidently"
I was driving home in a jeep, and was about 3 miles from home on a highway. Some guy goes in the middle of the road waving his arms. I stopped thinking someone got in an accident, and he said "I need a ride to town". Which I just came back from. Well, he pretty much got in, so I thought what the heck. It was about 10 years ago, and it took 90 minutes out of my time.
I think the guy got kicked out of a bar because he reeked of beer.
I guess I'm alive to tell about it.

never have, and don't think i ever will unless i'm armed.
Sad story:
One of my old high school teachers (only had her for half a semester since i switched classes) stopped on the freeway to help a stranded vehicle/driver. On the way out of her car, she was struck by an oncoming vehicle and died on the scene. Car was never found.
Pretty amazing how ruthless people are nowadays.

Yeah I picked up a couple of hitchers at the same time. In hindsight though, it was probably wiser to not have done that since I was alone and there were 2 of them.
I was in Alaska at the time and if you've never been to the boonies side of that state, you know that there is absolutely NOTHING out there for miles. These two guys were immigrants from the middle east trying to find work as fishermen in Valdez, AK. It was reflex, but I saw them and I pulled over. Right then, I thought "Uh-oh. What the hell did I just do?" I was in a van so they sat behind me. All the while, I made conversation to give an excuse to keep looking back at them from the rearview mirror. Man, I was sweating bullets. These two guys really looked out of place.
Anyway, I didn't end up taking them all the way. I had to make a turn off the main highway to a small town. I kept thinking, how am I going to let these guys go? Will they jump me out of the middle of nowhere and take the van? Are they gonna kill me? Fortunately, at the turn off, there was a little pub on the corner. At a sigh of relief, I pulled in where people were standing around. At least I'd know enough that they wouldn't be stupid to jump a guy in front of eyewitnessess. I said goodbye and took off.
Anyway, that was probably the first and last time I'll ever pick up a hitchiker. Too much to worry about.
