HD-DVD
So i was an early adopter of HD, and only have component inputs. While it works fine with HD cable boxes(1080i) and dvd (480p), but i was wondering if, with the new inception of upconverting DVD players, none of which i know of currently upconverts over component, will the new HD-DVD/blu-ray boxes upconvert 480p and also show the HD content over the component or will it downconvert it all to 480p?

Damn good question. That said, any company that makes a Blu-Ray/HD-DVD player that isn't backward compatible is asking for a whoopin' and leaving their flank open for their respective competitors.

They are both backwards compatible. Just like DVD players play CD's, these will play old dvd's as well.
Microsoft just announced a HD DVD add on for the Xbox 360 today. I will be picking one of those up for my 360 if it is priced right.
The idea does not do that much for me because I am fine with 480p dvd's as it is. I like hd for sports and some other things but don't feel the need to spend too much to see Wedding Crashers in 720p.

25-50GB per disc the same size of a cd/dvd.....yeah its gonna take over. Damn they even have a 100GB DISC

My main problems with these high def discs is that there is this huge format war, so buying anything is a pricey risk, there is a ton of anti-piracy software to ensure that using the players will be a headache, there is no guarantee it will play normal or custom DVDs, and if you really think about it, on-demand television will probably blow right past this technology. Too early to adopt - its too pricey and there's a lot of roadblocks today.

the movie companies want component video dropped from the HD DVDs due to piracy concerns, but the FCC wouldn't allow it...so your HDTV will play them.
If you don't have a DVI or HDMI HDTV with HDCP, you will be able to use component.
