Default HD-DVD (AACS) hacked

So, this guy claims to have hacked the copy protection (AACS) used in HD-DVD. If its true, shouldn't be long until Blu-ray is hacked as both use the same copy protection scheme.

Nothing that is created by humans will ever be unbreakable.

You could buy or burn Blu-Ray bootlegs, but it'll be awhile before peeps start dling Blu-Ray quality movies. DVD rips now is 4gb. i would assume a Blu-Ray rip will be maybe 12gb or so. That is too much to just leave on a HD.

DVD rips are way more than 4 gb these days as most movies now are dual-layer.

I have a huge collection of dled movies on my 500GB external. If I were to have only blu-ray quality movies, I wouldn't be able to hot a fourth of the movies I could now. I'm sure people will dl it, but it technology sure isn't keeping up with the media. 1TB of raided HDs sure isn't what it used to be.

HD-DVD will be about 12 gigs. Blue Ray will be more like 25 gigs.

If I'm correct, the limit for cable internet is 10 mbps. I don't think that type of connection can handler more than that, and most providers don't give anywhere near that much. At home we have a 6 mbps connection. If people want to download 25 gigs, then the speed would need to increase significantly. Ripping movies to your hard drive is not a big deal because hard drives are cheap, but downloading is a problem.

25GB for everything on the disc. If you want just the video, probably 12GB. So if you wanted the whole thing, then 25GB x 20 = 500GB. 20 movies?! Shoot, I have 300. That would be 30 HDs.

for the me the irony is this. Why even buy a blue ray player if you aren't about perfect quality picture. And if you are why jeopardize picture quality by burning movies...?

If you can afford an 800-1000 dollar player, don't go cheap on the movies. Everything catches up in time. if they lose enough money on bootlegs, the cost will be reflected somewhere else that everyone will end up paying.
